1993 J30: First cold start of the day she runs and idles great. Shut it off for short periods of time, (to run in a store) restart and she idles real low, almost to the point of stalling. Let it sit a few hours and she runs and idles fine. Any help is appreciated. Joe

J's don't like short trips. If its not fully warmed up on shut off it may be flooding .The reason letting it set for a few hours then it starts just fine is the excess fuel is running down past your rings to the crankcase. Not a good thing.

Totally agree with Yoda. J's have never liked short runs, even when new.

I keep reading about issues with shorts trips and the J on this board but I've never had this problem - which I'm very grateful for. If anything, its been the opposite. Daily, I drive 2 miles to work. Almost everywhere I go is within 1-2 miles of where I live and work so the majority of my trips are short distances. If I'm in a hurry on a really cold morning, it isn't even completely warmed up by time I get to work. Nonetheless, I never have a problem with starts under these conditions.

The only time my J has had issues is after driving 300+ miles on trips to St. Louis in the winter. The day after a trip the engine will flood on the first start attempt. I have to hold the gas peddle to the floor. It will eventually start, knock around for a bit and throw out a bunch of smoke before running normally again. Fortunately, this has happened only twice. Just thought I'd throw that out there since I seem to have the odd J.

Not bad unless its flooding ,But a good habit with the J's are to warm them up before shutdown.
