So I just bought a 91' 240sx, with 114 k on the chassi, with an s14 engine and transmission swap in it. the engine/transmission only has 40,000 miles on it. it has an injen cold air intake and a catback exhaust with a 2.5 muffler. my friend said that i would be LUCKY to get 140 hp out of my car if i took it on a wheel dyno. what is the real deal with these cars on dynos? is the wheel dyno significantly different? please give me some first hand accounts or some advice. I'd REALLY like to make it significantly faster. any idea how i can make it faster? for somewhat cheap.

faster and cheap are two words rarely use together when talking about cars. speed cost money, ask any race team.dynos are all different and a reading from one might be very different from another. if you do any dyno tuning, choose one dyno and take it back to the same one after mods so the readings are consistent. a dyno is a measuring device and it doesn't make much sense building anything using two different kinds of tape measures metric/standard.your friends comment is pretty close, ka24de is rated at about 155 hp stock so after driveline loss is subtracted, it would be in the 140 range.nitrous would be one of the cheaper ways to get good power but it has it's drawbacks.

Got 2-3 grand? Then you can see 250-300 hp, if not, deal with it. A naturally aspirated 4 cylinder 2.4 liter car thats dated 14 years is not going to be make the power todays Evos and Mustangs do...without some cash. Firstly though, sounds like you need to hone your driving skills and learn your car first.

^^^^lol while thats probably good adivise he didnt realy say anything that show much about wether or not he can drive. I agree with you though, sorry if that seems rude man, were just kinda get alot of "How can I easly make my 10 year I4 old economy car have 300rwhp for under $300". You cant blame us for raising eyebrows at someone coming around try to find out after the fact how much power the car they just bough has, Alot of people we see have just latched onto the 240s recent popularity and come asking to run 12's for cheap..../rant

See the thing is 240s arent realy fast cars, they are just fun as hell to drive. They are realy more about handling then speed. 140 at the wheels right now is possible depending on your engine(some just are closer to being built to the intended specs, have better maitence histories, were broken in better ect...) but you are most likely around the 130rwhp mark, from what ve seen bolting some more crap on(headers pully ect) could give you around 150 without a whole lot of trouble...getting up closer to 200rwhp would take some work, and most likely a turbohonestly though with out dedication and $$$ your car wont be a speed demond.

Again not to be rude but what kinda power were you expecting it to have?

the s14 engine isnt any more powerfull then the s13 engine, just newer and has more emissions stuff on it(I belive rumor is tunned slightly differently with less agressive cams, although i dont know enough to say thats anything more then hearsay) 170 at the wheels na isnt easy, it has been done a number of times but I see new cams in your future along with some small headwork. It sucks buying something and then realizing it isnt all that you expecteded but if you need he power i can be made(at a price) and otherwise with some money in the suspension(or even stock for that matter) the s13 is a awsome car you might even be psyching(can spell at all) yourself out with the numbers. the car is lightweight and still has a fair amount of power(more torque too ) definatly enough to have fun with. you will learn more from a low powered car as well cause you gotta focus more on driving it perfect to maintain speed were other cars can just all but stop then take off again...(ehh gotta be optimistic right)

theres a big difference between 170bhp and 170rwhp if your going for 170bhp bolt on's should get you there, but 170bhp is only about 145rwhp

(170bhp*.15= 25.5, 170-25= 145rwhp)

Our stock hp is deceptively sufficient.

I mean, I like more power just like everyone else, but when I'm really keeping my (stock) S14 at redline and driving hard, I'm always surprised how much pull it has and now responsive it is in the top 2k or so of the powerband.

I <3 my car:-D

Hey mixmaster, youre getting off to a bad start. You only need to post your question in one forum. Dont worry, somebody will see it.Take some time and just read up on your new car. Then you'll learn which questions you need to ask.

Congrats on the car, and welcome to NICO
