Hello fellow M45 owners. My mechanic will be installing a replacement engine into my 2006 infiniti M45 sport RWD. Here is my question: once the mechanic has removed my blown engine, are there any low costing mods or preventative things that can be done to protect my M45, or boost its performance? The engine swap is going to set me back $5000 Cdn, and if I can do some low costing mods / preventative maintenance then I certainly intend to do so.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you. Terence

For maintenance, hopefully the mech checks compression on the new engine then:
1. Spark plugs
2. Valve cover gaskets
3. Rear main (crankshaft) seal
4. Front crankshaft seal
5. PCV valves
I should have asked, how many miles are on the replacement engine and how long has it been sitting idle for?
6. Being an m45 it would be nice if someone popped the oil pan or somehow checked to see if that engine ever ran dry/burnt oil. If you find metal flakes in there return that ticking time bomb; if not, well, you just have your peace of mind and you get some new oil pan sealant.
7. Thermostat
8. New radiator cap
9. Coolant flush
10. Air filter
11. While the engine bay is unoccupied you might want to check the condition of your fluid hoses in there - coolant, power steering, transmission
Some people would go as far as replacing the knock sensors, water pump, oil pump etc... but at some point one has to draw the line between all that and just buying a new engine

My philosophy is not to throw any mod money yet until I'm sure it runs in the basic sense first. Your financial situation may vary

Also, if the new engine was hoisted by the intake manifold :nono: look into replacing the intake gaskets

For parts, you can install new (stock diameter) unorthodox racing pulleys (lowers weight of the pulley) and an intake spacer...that's about it I think.
