It's looking like I got ripped off big time. The rb20det clip I purchased that was claimed to have 24 thousand miles on it is junk. When I first tried to start it the thing was locked up. I pulled the spark plugs out and found rust on them. Then I sprayed wd40 in the sparkplug holes and used a breaker bar on the crank to get it to turn over. My compression ranges from 45 to 120 and I know I should be getting 149. This p.o.s. woun't start for anything. My question is: Is there something I can try to get the ring unseized? I figure if I can get it to start maybe it will loosen the rings up. Or if I have to rebuild it where can I get the rings or a complete rebuild kit?

You cant get an accurate test if you can't even crank your engine with the starter. It also needs to be warmed to operating temp.

The engine will turn over with the starter now and it will almost crank up.

Do you have the motor in the clip or in your car? Don't forget the green relays for the ECU, and just unplug your MAF if your just going to start it that way you don't have to worry about the intercooler piping and ect.

I have it in my 96 240sx. Wiring is complete, I'm getting spark and fuel. I just don't think I have enough compression for it to start.

New fuel filter? or the same old one? Try to start it with the MAF unpluged and see how it dose then.

I've got a new 300zx fuel filter. I will try to start it with the maf unpluged tomorrow. Do you know of any other way to regain some compression in the cylinders? I let some penetrating oil sit in the cylinders overnight and it helped a little but I still have two sitting at 45 psi.

Tell us what each cylinder is doing compression wise. That can help diagnose.

#1=70 #2=48 #3=45 #4=62 #5=65 #6=120 . This is after my best effort to free the rings. When I first tested it they were all in the 30 - 40 psi range. Could the motor start with this low of compression?

Read the instructions that came with your comp tester and it should give you clues on some diagnosis. Someone here might be able to figure out the numbers also. I can't since my home computer is out.

Could it be your valves are stuck also? If you have rust on your plugs I would bet your valves are in bad shape also.

rust on spark plugs, hmm...water must be in there. look like you have a clip that's been sitting far too long.

I agree. This is important so that nobody else gets ripped off. Who sold this to you?

I got the clip off eBay. I'm going to give the guy a chance to make it right before I list his name. Looks like excellent feedback doesn't always mean excellent seller.
