low cluctch resistance, squeaking

I just bought a '90 240 that needed some minor work. For one, the clutch pedal has very low resistance. I was told that it had a new clutch in it and thought that it was probably the master or slave cylinder.

First, just to make sure i tried bleeding the system from the seperate bleeder valve, thinking that perhaps whoever installed the new clutch only bled it at the slave cylinder. This didn't help it, but i noticed a squeaking sound that seemed to come from the slave cylinder.

It only squeaks while pushing the pedal, it doesn't squeal while the clutch is held in and it does it while the car is off, which makes me think that it isn't the throwout bearing. There doesn't seem to be a leak in the system, but could it be the slave cylinder is not working correctly? The dealership told me that the whole clutch assembly needed to be replaced, but i think they are trying to rip me off. Should i even bother replacing the slave cylinder, or should i just get the clutch replaced?

Try replacing the slave cylinder. Do it yourself...it takes all of about 10 minutes (it's held on with 2 bolts) and costs about $40 or so iirc.

okay, i figured id go ahead and try that since it is so cheap, plus remove that dampener while i'm at it. Thanks.
