the three basic routes for modding your car are going to be naturally aspirated KA, Turbo KA, or SR20 swap. you might want to try poking around those forums areas and see what interests you most.... btw welcome to nico!

Everyone has a unique perspective on how they want to tune a car. If you want power, then an engine buildup or swap may be in order. If you want better handling, perhaps a suspension overhaul. If you're an audiophile, maybe you should invest in a nice system. Each way of going about things has a "keystone" mod, or some kind of centerpiece. For power people, it's the engine, be it a swap or otherwise. For suspension people, it's usually coilovers or a nice shock/spring combo with some chassis stiffening. There are MANY MANY mods available for these cars, and MANY MANY ways of going about tuning your car to your style.

So, how would you describe your driving? What areas do YOU want to focus on? Whatever they are, I guarentee that you will not find a better online resource than NICO.

welcome to NICO guy!!! we all say suspension goes first, and I think KA-T's are awesome but I just won't get to own one cuz LHD sucks when u drive on the left.

You are so luck to have a 240 man lol you have all the info you could want at your fingetips now, just use that blazing red button in the top righthand corner and it all jumps out at you!!! it's so cool! lol

1. looks2. power3. handling

looks can be just a simple paint job, wheels, lower or with an aero kit, tail lights, conversions, wing whatever maybe cf theres a big list of stuff you can do int his category just browse around some pictures to see what you like. you can also be happy with the original look so yeah you may not need to put any money here if youre satisfied.

power can come in many ways, engine swapping engines (you can do basic still like ca/sr and you can go crazy with stuff like rb and if you want to go any crazier theres also f20, 2jz and some even want to do muscle, keeping your existing engine and building it up, or turboing it. exhausts, intakes are basic bolt ons. i'm not really a power hungry monster so stock is fine with me.

handling usually people start with lowering their car in some way or form. coilovers is a little more exotic and aftermarket shocks and springs is a little cheaper, then theres a lot of bars, arms, rods, braces and lots of adjustable goods you can add on.

theres lots of things you can do to your car but it usually starts with something like that. remember cars cost a lot of money and its all preference what you do to your car. myself for instance, dont think i will put much money into power at all. coilovers, struts/sway bars, tension control rods, rear upper control arms, traction rods, and toe rod was what i did first. next i'd probably get bodywork+paint done. not really interested in power as much but i'd probaby get an exhaust.

Welcome.

First I would start by getting the car into good shape making sure its not leaking water, leaking/burning oil/fluids, making sure the suspension's in good condition...etc. then go from there.

I had lots of plans for my car and then it started to rain. A lot. I ended up with a wet driver's seat for a couple of weeks. Then I noticed the water in the hatch. Now I find things I never noticed before and it bugs the sh*t out of me.

Oil change, transmission fluid change, new brakes/fluid,coolant, o2 sensor, spark plugs/wires, filters, maybe even carbon clean the engine while you're at it...And press every button in the car to make sure everything works! Have Fun!

Actually theres the chevy v8 swap that one guy on here has. OMG that is so awesome, i dont care if its domestic, that 240 would sound so scary. I dont know how much it is but im sure its expensive, but hey if it was 5000$ i would do it in a hot minute, because its got hp and hella torque and nothing is cheaper to make hp on than that.*BACK TO THE REAL WORLD* - me personally though, i am going with SR20DET because I have a 98 auto ka and it will be cheaper and better for me to go SR20DET with auto --> manual swap than staying with a 130,000 mile ka with a turbo on it and paying outta *** to go to manual swap.

You really need to determine your 'upgrade path'... and no, power isnt everything. To accurately determine your upgrade PATH you have to know what you want to do with your car. The typical choices are Show, Drag, Drift, or Auto X.

Show- Well, I'm not gonna cover this... this is the typical bodykit + speakers + flashing lights + sparkly paint + KEY TO THE SIDE OF YOUR CAR upgrade.

Drag- Well, this is where power is going to matter obviously... most people who Drag race wont auto X, and MIGHT drift, but probably not. The reason for this is you get classed-to-hell on a swapped car, plus all your big turbos and whatnot make nice power, but that boost sucks to kick in in mid-drift and have it throw everything off for you. Here you're going to want to pick an engine to swap, or KA-T, and do it up big time. Basic mods are going to consist of upgrading turbos, EMS, Boost controller, and fuel system.

Auto X- Well, your Auto cross mods are going to probably start with a nice set of stiff coilovers and nice gripping tires. STBs and Sway bars will be of a nice help on stiffening your chassis up, as will bushings and new rods.

Drift- Well, this is my main concern in upgrading my 240. I definetily advise starting with a top-of-the-line ATS or maybe even Kaaz 2-Way LSD to keep that back end straight when you pop it out. Following that, get you some nice coilovers, stiffen the chassis, maybe a rollcage and a racing seat.

Hope I was of SOME help.
