Hi there,I just moved from PA to NM and have noticed a huge increase in noise from my clutch fan. The heat is obviously much higher here: 95F typically. I hear the fan speed increasing in 1-2-3 gear, and it only goes away when I'm cruising at top of 3rd. My car sounds like a friggin' dump truck in town. Is this normal? The sound alonr makes me want to convert to electric, although I bet they'd be noisy also.

As a side note, my temps are so stable it's scary. I guess the fan is doing it's job: not worried about that. The noise is just hard to ignore.

Maybe I just need a loud exhaust to drone it out.

my car sounds like a dump truck too,lol.....but the clutch fan works just fine, temps are normal, and the sound goes away after changing gears.

get a new clutch fan. now. that happened to mine because the clutch on the fan was locking up every once in a while. i lived with it for about 2 months, and when i was getting on the highway, the fan wouldnt slip properly, and at about 5k rpms, the fan exploded and three of the fins came off. if i had been messing with the throttle under the hood, it couldve taken off my arm or head or really hurt me. just go to the junk yard and get a fan that still slips without catching at all. and it doesnt take much to take it off and put it on either. it took me 10 minutes and 10 bucks and i had a new clutch fan.~Ender

Huh. Well I didn't expect to hear that mine is going bad. It usually always disengages above 3k, but I suppose an exploding fan isn't something I want to toy with. :-)

Thanks for the response. So the fluid in the clutch isn't supposed to respond to heat, just pressure(induced from RPM?)

it responds to heat and pressure, thats why the water pump shaft has a round nub that actually touches the clutch. It should NEVER run on the highway, if it did, you would overheat, as the fan does nothing but slow down the incoming air. Mine runs almost all the time on hot days here (heat index into the 115 mark) all the way up to 4th gear, but it does cut out at 4k rpms or so.
