Loud tapping noise

A couple days ago when I started my 2002 Infiniti QX4 it made a very loud tapping noise and got worse when I was driving it. It recently stopped making that noise but it makes a ticking noise when I start up and the ticking continues when I drive. What can cause this??

Check the engine oil level.

Does the noise sound like it's coming from the engine? How many miles are on your QX4?

Uh oh. Sounds like power valve screws.
Has the truck lost power? Has it started burning oil?
Is the check engine light on?

Yes, check engine light is on, yes it is burning oil, no it has not lost power and it has approx 110,500 miles.

Can you get codes pulled at an auto parts store and post the codes here? Most of them will read them for free.
