Loud Squeal From Radio

Hi, I bought a 94 Q a little while ago. The radio worked when I bought it (although the speakers were obviously blown) and now all I get is a very loud high pitched squeal from the speakers. It can't be turned down. I have to turn the radio off. Any similar problems encountered?

It sounds like a worn out wire or crossed wire. I am no expert but some one may have tried to fix something, hence the blown speaker and crossed wires some how.

Yes. Each speaker has its own amplifier behind/under it. Its common for these amps to go bad after 10 years.

The best option would be to replace it from another 94 Q and from the same side as they have a specific equalization.

But I went ahead and replaced mine from other cars such as Maxima/J30/Corvette/Camaro... actually experimented different combos of amps to find which sound I liked from each speaker.

Seems like there was a factory recall on some due to fire????

That squeal is probably the amp.

The 1994 Bose system is not subject to factory recall.

Discard the system and replace with aftermarket equipment. There are very few cars that I believe have better sound systems than most reasonably aftermarket options: Nakamichi Lexus LS400, Bose 4.0 Cadillac Seville STS, and a handful of others. The Q's system is nice, but not spectacular.
