Hello, All... Long time lurker, first time poster.

I acquired a 1992 Nissan 240SX in December. It's been completely trouble free until recently.

More info on the car:1992 Base 240sx130k miles2 injectors were replaced before I bought the carBeen having weird electrical gremlins I've been ignoring (the A/C lighting is sporadic, and the speedo is flaky as well.)Also has fuel delivery problems - RARE. Only seemed to happen twice. It will burn really rich and accellerate really slow when this happens, but it's only lasted a minute or so each time it has happened.New clutch within the last two yearsJust changed the oil on Saturday

Located in:Louisville, KY

What's happening is that when I am accellerating more than just a little bit while I am in gear, I head a really loud roaring noise that seems to be coming from the rear of the car. If I shift into neutral and rev the engine, there is no noise, and there is no noise under engine braking either.

If I accelerate very lightly, there is no noise - but anything more than just enough to keep up with traffic is LOUD. Once speed is maintained, then I am fine.

I'm relatively mechanically inclined, but only with motorcycles - I've dealt with cars by taking them to someone else.

I'm thinking that this is somehow related to the transmission, but I'm not entirely sure where. Maybe it's the rear diff...

This is proably something basic, I'm just looking for a heads up at this point. Any thoughts?

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this car... It seems to be somewhat self-healing, in that the problems I have had generally go away very quickly. Which always makes diagnosis fun.

Thanks in advance!

check the center support bearing on the driveshaft. The rubber bushing may be deteriorated.

Also check the U-joints/diff lube as they may need attention. I would look at the carrier too. Something amiss in the driveline....
