i replaced the flywheel with a fidanza one and the clutch with an ACT one. after it was all put on theres was this really loud noise comeing from it. moslty in all gears at around 3k theres was this grinding sound. esp when i would gas it past 3k then let off-no clutch in...and this really loud sound would start. kind of howling but grinding..almost like.."inghee inghee ingee"...but a deep tone. almost like "wong wong wong" i changed the TO bearing from the one that came from the ACT to the stock one which was just fine. still that sound was there. then we also changed the pilot bearing but still it was theres. so now im thinking that it could be the gears itslef. its prety hard to shift from 1st to 2nd...or 2nd to 1st..and its really hard to put it in reverse. so im think. i need help. what should i do. what is this sound!

sounds kind of obvious, but is there enough gear oil in the trans?

yeah there is. i even changed the oil to a thicker viscosity. i know theres enough cuz i put a whole gallon. Plus i dont think its the transmission istelf because if it was then the thicker gear oil would at least make a small difference in the sound coming from it. so i guess it somewhere in between the TO bearing to the pilot bearing. any guesses?

sounds to me like either lack of oil, or the T/O bearing.

If you put a gallon of oil in it, it will be coming out of the breather vent on top of the transmission when you drive- and will completely coat the underside of the car- talk about a mess. It holds 2.4 quarts.

I have been through a coupla' these trannys- if you used a new throwout that came with the transmission then that should not be the problem- unless you didn't pack it with grease or something. Sounds like bearing troubles to me- like input shaft bearing or some of the other internal bearings. Was it ever driven with low oil in the transmission? The idler shaft bearing went out on mine and it made a horendous noise like you are talking about. There were literally pieces of bearing getting grinded up inside the transmission. When I took it apart, it was a total loss- all the bearings were worn out and the gear teeth were in bad shape from munching on pieces of bearing. (I didn't have a choice but to drive it about 50 miles home after the noise started- big stereo system = not gonna leave it by the road at night) Got a used transmission with 65K on it from the junkyard for 300 clams. Problem solved.

So now you have a high-dollar spooky-lightweight flywheel- and a busted transmission!! I'm not criticizing- I do things like that too. Seriously man, it sounds like you need to be scouring the junkyards...
