Loud Mechanical noise near Valve cover on 1994 Nissan pickup 4 cylinder engine

I have a loud mechanical clicking noise that comes and goes after the engine warms up. I suspect a loose timing chain. Has any one have any experience with this ?

pull off the valve cover and what does it look like in there?

remove the upper chain guide (lotsa posts in 240 forum on this).
