Sup guy well im putting my engine back together after replacing the head gasket. Well today i got one of those click type tourque wrenches so i wouldnt over torque any bolts or break one off in the head. I was on the second tighting step in the fsm and i herd a loud bang. It scared the **** out of me and shot the 1st rocker arm up about 2in on the intake side. After looking and feeling all over the block and head and not finding any crackes or stress fractures I continued to tighten the rest but the number 1 and 2 head bolts were loose as hell. Wtf happend besides me ****ting my pants.

I know for a fact the i tightend them down ( i like the clicking sound ) but what the hell could have happend???

Thanks

Maybe the head wasnt perfectly seated with the block... Maybe a little off the dowels and when you were tightening it it just snapped into place?

Ya thats what i as thinking b/c the head looks tight on the block. With the Arp studs do i follow the last parts of the tightning like marking bolts and spinning 180 degrees in 90 degree segments.????

woah woah woah.. STOP RIGHT THERE!!!

you have ARP head studs? Then throw your FSM head tightening sequence out the window. Except for the order at which those get tightened. None of the torque to yield stuff.

20, 40, 60 and 80 ft*lb in that increment but same tightening order as the FSM.

Please tell me you havent done that already.

Some of it but not the 90degree part just steps A-D on Em 26 or pg 63. I'm still ok right???

Head bang? Was there some Slayer playing in the background or something?
