Loud Grinding Noise @ RPM

Hey everyone Whats up? I have abit of a problem. I have a lud grinding noise comming from the engine bay at about 4K rpms... ive only heard it a couple of times at the local races but it bothers me alot ( kinda like scratching at a chalk board) it happens whether im gunning the car or not. Some people have suggested Water Pump bearing or timing tensioner any ideas as to what it could be? i thought it might be from the transmission but i already determined it isnt. there is also a clicking noise comming from the water pump @ idle which is why i think its the water pump( which will be replaced anyhow) Also my engine bay smells very heavily of gas ( leak probably) but i replaced the fuel hoses to and from the fuel filter and i still have a leak somewhere.. i know i have a leak cause when i open the engine bay there is some gas on the top of the fuel filter i need to change the fuel filter but do you guys suggest any thing else i need to do? the engine is a KA24DE with 69xxx miles 1992

Check your fuel injectors for leaks also

Thanks will do... though how would i go about checking them for fuel leaks.. im a n0ob... i know where they are... but i need to know how to check them.
