Did you change the thermostat and test the old one?dzznuts671 wrote: i a have done the regular maintenance for my Q. All the regular flushes and change all the fluids and so forth. I use all oem replacement parts.
Brian coming back is almost as good as the second coming, Hopefully they will give your post count back.maxnix wrote:Did you change the thermostat and test the old one?
Must itemize maintenance. Regular to some owners is too little for others.
From your description, it sounds like you finally have a fan clutch that's working!dzznuts671 wrote:The thing is now when i start the car the fan blows really hard. it kinda sounds like a bus if that makes any sense. like a loud wooshing sound. the rpm idles around 1250. The sound kind of goes away when the car warms up.
Thank you! will be looking into this. Just havent had time lately.Q45tech wrote:Your description sounds normal as the natural position is for the heat to flow in the foot wells from the 2 knee ducts + 2 floor vents on either side of center tunnel.
Examine the 124+ pages in FSM concerning HVAC system especially early pages 6-10 which show which vents flow in which selected positions of HVAC panel.
Sorry. No the fan doesnt blow on only one speed. Only on high when i first turn the car on. Then after it warms up it goes down. The AC seems to be working good. All the buttons work. When i put it on econ there doesnt seem to be any heat coming in down below. And yes the overheating issue is gone. The temp gauge now stays in the middle and below.goody90q45 wrote:I'm confused. Are you saying the fan blows only on one speed- high?
Is the AC functioning properly (cool air, no heat)? Are the mode buttons working on the controller? Any heat coming out down below with the blower off? Still overheating or is that fixed?
Thats what i was hoping. its just that its so loud compared to my friends 99Q.Skibane wrote:

Typically, the clutch engages for a few seconds immediately after a cold start. Since the fan is running at full engine speed during this time, you'll definitely hear it. Also, the engine runs at a faster idle during this time, which makes the fan louder. The clutch then gradually disengages over the next few seconds, so that the fan is just freewheeling at a slower, quieter speed.
In cold weather (with the A/C and defroster turned off), the engine may not ever get hot enough for the fan clutch to engage. In hot weather (or with the A/C or defroster turned on), you may hear the clutch engage after just a few minutes of driving.
Yep. Replace the blower motor.Q451990 wrote:If your fan is working intermittently, I'd think it's worn brushes in the fan motor - not the controller... Just a guess though.
