Hi - I am a new owner of a 2004 Infinity QX56 and I notice that when I turn on the heat or air using the front vents, there is a loud clicking sound of about 10 clicks before it stops.

I'm wondering what the issue is if anyone else has experienced this?

Thanks.

Welcome to the group Sorry about the delayed response.

In my opinion what it sounds like is a motor for one of your Air Conditioner mode doors slowly dying. There is a small reverse polarity drive motor for 3 different modes. If you scroll through the modes by repeatedly pressing the lower middle (? depending on year) and waiting until the airflow changes. If you notice the noise while the mode is changing that would be a big red flag in my book. There are several other thins but from your description that is the first things that I would check.

How hard is it to replace AC mode doors drive motor? And how do I figure out which one it is?

Thanks,
Brian

I have a 2010 Titan with 25,000 miles on it, and I have the exact same noise. I doubt the motor is already going out, sooo any other ideas?

I just had that fixed on my 2008. It happened to me when you go from defrost to vents. It would also do it after you turn the vehicle off for a few mins. The dealer said its a smail cheap part. I will look on my invoice for what was replaced.

DOES IT SORT OF SOUND LIKE A WOODPECKER IN YOUR DASH?

They actually just had recall on those on the '08 and newer. I originally had mine replaced once under warranty, then replaced a second time under the recall with a new version. Nissan also extended the factory warranty on the HVAC blowers.

The parts for this repair are quite reasonably priced (I'd guess less than $30/ea) labor is a bear on that one though. For the noise on the right side the it requires the dash to come out. The left side one is precariously located between the Bose amp and the BCM behind several razor sharp segments of structural aluminum bars.

IMO this is one to save for the pros.

One of the guys I work with ended up going to the hospital for a severe cut from one of those recall motors. That was the worst seven tenths of an hour he's ever made.
