First time user, I hope this forum can be of some assistance. My 2010 QX56 just started having a loud clicking noise coming from the rear corner on the passenger side. It is a very loud and repetitive clicking noise that occurs for about 15 seconds after start up and then it goes away. I started it a couple of time and it continues with the same behavior as well as the last time I started it up and turned it off right away and the noise still continued for a few seconds.
Curious if it might be either the fuel pump, the air suspension on the rear or something else entirely different. Any help or thoughts is appreciated. FYI, the vehicle has 135k miles and all recommended maintenance is always done. No accidents or major repairs ever required.
Thanks
Robert

Welcome to NICO!

Thats a toughie. Are you hearing it only when you're inside the car? Have you got out to pinpoint it any further? Inside, there can be a lot of echoing which will make it harder to isolate.
Is it happening only on startup and idle? Does it come back if the car has been driven already during the day?

It is loud enough to hear inside the car and only faintly from the outside. It only occurs when you initially turn the ignition switch to full power, you do not need to actually start it. The clicking noise will also continue for a few seconds after turning the ignition off but only if turned off immediately after start up. Once the noise stops after 15-30 seconds at start up, it never re-occurs, it's only at startup. I am pretty sure it's the fuel pump or fuel pump relay based on the location of the noise. If you sit on the passenger side seat in the third row and place your hand on the side panel near the floor you can feel the clicking as well as hear it.

You may be right- the fuel pump could be having trouble priming and is giving you some advance notice that it is going to fail. However, I wouldn't recommend replacing it until it actually does and you try replacing the relay first. At the worst, you have a good idea of what the problem will be if it doesn't start one morning!
