Loud Bang From 2002 Maxima Transmission

Hi...My wife's 2002 Maxima Transmission makes an very loud band when she shifts into reverse after starting the car. It only happens about once every month. Sometimes after the bang she puts the car into reverse but nothing happens. Usually after moving it back to park and starting over gets her going. Any ideas or thoughts on what could be the problem would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like it could be a sticky valve body body. I would take it to a trans specialist and have them take a look.
