Sometime later, I want to build up a KA turbo. I don't want to run on stock internals. I plan to get the block sleeved, but where? Also when u guys sleeve your cylinders, do they take out the entire sleeve and put the new one in, or do they just bore out some of the stock sleeve and insert the new sleeve inside of that? Now some ?'s about the KA block. I know its iron, but is it closed deck, open deck? how strong is it compared to sr block?>

You dont sleeve the KA block. And its like comparing apples to oranged, ka is iron, sr is aluminum, the sr is built for turbo, but the ka can take massaive amounts of it under the right internals.

BTW, Do a search too, there was just a thread about sleeving the ka block not long ago.

The KA doesn't have an open deck. Open decks exist in Die-Cast blocks, like Honda blocks and the new QR25DE. The KA is sand cast, so it doesn't have an open deck.

They did have a problem that was supposedly fixed prod date 01/02+. Apparently they changed the ring designs.

But anyway, my production date on my car was 11/01 and I never had any ring-seating problems. I guess I was lucky. Although my car burns coolant...URGH.

Its too bad, for a new designed engine I would have thought Nissan would have worked out all the bugs. Or you might just have caught some bad luck. Either way is a bummer. Other then that, how do you like it. I contemplated getting one for the wife when I get home. By the way, sweet color. That silver has always been my favorite.

If the car didn't burn coolant, I'd love it.

And my engine never had a problem. It was my radiator that was faulty. My radiator cracked, do to simply a production defect. But that caused my car to peg the temp gauge. Which in turn, i'm SURE is why my car now burns coolant. Ofcourse, the dealer wants to say that it's because I removed the balance shafts, and that the radiator blowing up and my car pegging the temp gauge has nothing to do with it. URGH.

My dad had a problem with a dealership not fixing his transmission once. They had put saw dust inside it to make it shift. But after a month it just crapped itself. So he told the sales rep he bought it from that he would drive by every night and smash out one of the big bay windows in front of the store. The sales rep said there was nothing he could do. So my old man smashed out 2 bay windows that same night. He took his car back the very next day...they fixed his transmission.

Not that I recommend that or anything, just thought I'd share.
