Car: '90 Hatch (Sold)

Post

Hey guys, thanks a lot for taking the time to look here. Thanks to this site and a little motivation from my friends, I bought my very first car... too bad I couldn't keep it for long. It was only a couple of months ago that I bought a '90 Hatch, stock, red, ka24e (no swaps ever done), clean, good record, uncracked dash :naughty: all for $900. Why so much? Because I live in Canada and worse, in the province of Quebec, home of rust. Finding a car that was rust free was impossible unless it was imported from the states or was kept in storage all its life (those who were costed around $10000 :gotme).

Anyway, I kept looking and found the best deal, but it was in Ontario. I checked all the registration stuff and I had to inspect it to register it here in Quebec. Long story short,I got it here thinking that all was good, drove it to the garage with my dad (good times... ) and once it got on the lift, I saw what I would have never expected to see. Turns out the frame rails were rusted super badly, so much that they were literally falling apart, parts were cheaply patched here and there, the floor panel was patched, the e-brake cable was a mess....

Here are some pics of that rustbuket... doesn't look like it should be that bad does it?

My original plan was to fix the car so I could drive it once I'd turn 16 but there was so much to do that I wouldn't have been able to since it'd have to be my DD so I decided to sell it for the price that the others like mine (and ones that were worse) were going for. Seeing the condition of my car and seeing how and where the people were checking it when they came to buy it taught me a lot about 240's and especially canadian ones. In the end, I ended up selling my car to some "pro drifters" who were gonna "fix it up". I told them the problems, I had to show them the underbody since they weren't even going to check it themselves (not that it made a difference for them...) but in the end, I sold it for $1500. I made a profit!!! :chuckle: :werd: Was it really a profit though? Not really since it cost money, time and effort to bring the car here, time and effort to bring it to the garage, and it made me sad to have to sell my first car without even getting to drive it. On the plus side, I learned a lot, one of those things being not to buy a 240 for under $2000 in Quebec, especially out of Quebec.

As soon as that nightmare ended, I started looking for another and I am still now, so if any of you guys have a 240 for sale that is in good condition and are charging more than $2000, let me know :naughty:

Hopefully those "pro drifters" know what they're doing!

More pictures! Sorry for the quality...

Look at that exhaust tip...

Foam spoiler... surprisingly, there wasn't much rust under it.

Clean interior don't you think?

Chillin in the garage... (Looks like an apartment or a condo but it's a cottage)

Pretty muddy car... not much of a surprise since I got it from a guy who lived in a farm.

That's all for now, until I get another!

he sold it cause the frame rails were swiss cheese
I dont think people even read through posts these days

Ya unfortunate that you weren't able to keep the car honestly i wouldn't even consider it "my first car" if i didnt drive it lol.
When you find the next 240 atleast you'll know where to look for problems.

Hey man, i was in the same boat 2 years ago. i almost bought a 240 that looks superb on the outside but the frame was non existent. Keep looking you will find one but it will prob cost more than 2 grand to find a clean 240 here in Quebec. I found one last year but i paid $3500.

Yeah, sorry about the quality, they looked fine on the phone since its screen is so small. I was about to use the good camera but I thought the phone could take pics just as good. The pics are probably blue because the lighting wasn't so good in my garage and the phone had "night mode" on.

Glad to hear I'm not alone! Wow, which was it, s13 or s14? Did it still have rust?
