Lost the shift lock cover

I was for some reason I dont know whym trying to see how the shift lock cover came out, and to my knowelge it popped right out when I stuck the egdge of my creadit card to lift it up. But know I cant find the cover any where, I know it fell in my car, but I searced everywhere and couldnt find it. Know there is no cover, would anything happend

I do not have one either, nothing will happen just try to keep that area clean from dirt of liquids so it does not gum up over time.
