hello, i had a rod knock in my 92' hatchback. so i haven't drove it for a while... since i haven't drove it i have lost the keys . anyway. i found a motor today so i'm in need of a key now so i can turn the steering wheel and get my car onto the lift. whats the cheapest way to replace a lost key? i've done some searching but haven't come up with a definitive answer.

Take the ignition switch and door tumbler to a locksmith and have them make one, and get one to hide.

The Key itself isnt expensive its just getting it cut properly that is a dealer would work fine.

Oh you said cheapest, call a locksmith to you, have ID and the registration card. Cost should be 100-200 bucks.

They don't do that for s13s. only 95 and up. Just take your door handle out and take it to a locksmith. I got mine done for 70 bucks.

Find a friend with a 240sx and use theirs.

ROFL! My S13 keys don't work in my friend's S13... :frown:

I had this issue happen to me before when my one and only key broke off in the door lock. I called a locksmith out to me. He not only pulled my broken key out of the hole, but also made a new key by pulling the trunk lock instead of the one in the door, since apparently that one's easier.

This was years ago though. Can't remember how much he charged, but i don't think it was too much.

It doesn't always work but is isn't a bad idea to try the key for a friends 240. Some where in florida there is a 97 240 that my key will crank, doesn't work on the door, but I can unlock the door on a 240 in less than a minute with a coat hanger.

Sometimes, the dealers leave the key code in the glovebox. It's on a sticker that says "Remove before selling". I was lucky in that mine was still there.

this happend to me less then a year ago with my cobalt, same way as simmode, broke my key off in the door. i took my vin to bowser(dealer)for a new door tumbler, the peice that covers the tumbler and two keys i think was around 200-including tax. i had to set the tumbler with the correct key code(the dealer gave it to me). also it took about an hour to reprogram them to the car..... yay anti-theft technology :lolling:
