Thanks for the reply. If you remember how much did you pay for the remote from the dealer? I heard its up to $200.
The only reason I'm intrigued by the ones on ebay is that there are a bunch of them being sold by shops that specialize in selling them with thousands of positive feedback. So I did more digging on google and apparently it is possible to program/reprogram remotes on certain models. Some of the sellers will give you instructions but you can find them online on sites such as:

It looks like its a lot more complicated but kind of like programming a garage door opener. More like a Nintendo secret code with pulling your key in and out of the ignition multiple times, pressing buttons...etc. The kicker is that it only works on certain type of remotes and apparently the 2000 qx4 had three different types of remotes.
My problem still remains that since I don't have my remote I don't know what model I had and if its the kind I can program myself. The manual doesn't help. Does anyone know an easy way to find this out? I guess I'll try some dealers and see if they volunteer this info. I could also try asking some of these sellers on ebay. Relatively speaking as far as ebay goes it seems like a low risk thingto try. They go for $20-50 depending on condition and if they have a nissan or infiniti logo and most of the sellers have lots of positive feedback and return policies. Hey if it works I'll get two of these.
I'll keep you guys updated if I find out myself and give this a try. In the meantime would appreciate if anyone knows how to find out my remotes model #.
Thanks
