So I have a major problem with my 93 240sx convertible the key got lost and it was the only one I had. I called the dealer and they said they cant get a new one and I called a local automotive locksmith and He can't look up the code to make a new key on a vin that old. Just wondering what model cars I could take the ignition front door locks and truck lock out of and would work in the 240. Thanks - Dean

a locksmith should be able to get another key made if you take the tumbler to him. dont see why the dealer cant get another one for you if you bring in your vin#... sounds like they didnt wanna do their job that day...

My 300zx key starts my 240, and unlocks it. I can also get in my friends 240 with both keys. I'm pretty sure any old nissan key will work.

Yea I will give another dealer in the state a call and see what they say. Maybe I can call the locksmith and see if I bring down the trunk tumbler if he can make a key if the other dealer also says they can't get a key.

lol wow thats awful. Thats pretty much saying that any s13 with stock nissan locks can easily be stolen... Did the s14 have a power locking system and an alarm?

Check for the key code in your glove box.

Alright I looked in the glovebox and there is 1 sticker in there for the tire pressure and what not. Would the key code be the 5 digits in the bottom right of that sticker?

I called the other local dealership to me and they told me they couldn't find a key code for anything older then 98. So I decided to call Nissan North america and after about 5 minutes on the phone with a rep. She told me that the code is in the system, but she can't tell me it over the phone and that she can only tell me that it is available and then she called crowley the first dealer I called to find out why they couldn't look it up in their system. Once she got back on the line with me she said they could order it for me and it would be $15.50 all I have to do is call in the order. I guess thats one way to make someone lazy at the parts dept. do their job. :chuckle:

That's some damn good info right there, let us know if it works, because I thought it was common knowledge that an6ything older then a 96 nissan you cant get a key made from a dealer or any where, as any dealer I've ever heard of will tell you the same thing. But if nissan north america still has the codes, that kicks a**.

I've already called and placed the order and it should be in some time next week. I'll post up after I receive the key and let everyone know if it works well or not.

Call Nissan Consumer Affairs. Go through the automated menu with other question as your option. Connects you right to a rep. and it should take less then a half hour from start to finish.

Picked up my key today. Works great. Don't have to jiggle it in the lock or anything. So I guess anyone running into this issue should definitely just call nissan north america and get the key code sent to their dealer and then they can make the key. :dblthumb:

Not to be mean, but you revived an 8 year old post to ask essentially the same question that was answered in this thread. Call a locksmith and ask for a quote on getting a key made, then call the local dealer and tell them the situation. I bet they won't charge you for the telephone call and you'll have your answer.
