I was coming home from a friends house and while i was getting off the highway something ran out in front of my car (probably a dog) and I lost control going about 50 mph. The car struck 4 reflector poles, and slide for about 100 ft. in the grass and mud. Insurance comes out Monday to estimate damage, should be a couple grand. Anyone have any idea how much it should be? In case you're worried, I'm fine... just a little hit to my ego.

I think it will be way more than a couple grand. The insurance quote after I was rear ended came out to be $2,800 and thats without any of the damage the body shop will find. I am happy to hear that you are fine. While reading your post I was expecting worse pictures.

Yeah I had no idea the treadlife was so low, especially on the inside. I had just had my tires rotated about 5000 miles ago too, which is odd... I believe my right front was my old left rear... too many burnouts I guess. Joking aside, I had some really bad warping on my rotors so I'm sure that didn't help.

One weird thing... my rental is a Maxima with the CVT transmission... if you haven't driven a car with one, go find one... seriously one of the coolest things I've ever been in... those commercials where they talk about "no shift shock" aren't kidding.

I'll keep you posted on the damage and what not.

I actually like this car, believe it or not, it feels almost as fast as my M. I hate front wheel drive though, so I'd never buy... hella torque steer with so much power to the front wheels. Nice car for the money, though... I'd still take and M35 over this though.

PS- my other option was an Avalon, I think I made the right choice.

Ouch!

Glad to hear you are okay, though!

Given what you described, it may have been tough to avoid, even with good tread, but regardless, please check and change your tires when the tread gets low.

The legal limit is 2/32", but it is indeed better to change before that. I have posted a thread about this before ... I will search for that!

Even Tire Rack Warns that HALF WORN TIRES are not the same a nearly new tires especially in wet or cold or grassy conditions.

Most tires change significantly after 8,000 miles because this is the limit of field testing to quantify the wear parameters.

I have a funny feeling that a lot of the tread was removed when I was spinning. There are some SERIOUS skid marks on the road when I was still on it. I went back and looked at the tires and they're only worn on the insides. I called the Nissan dealer who last rotated my tires just to question why they didn't say anything, and of course they had "no record of the tech who serviced the vehicle." Whatever though.
