Hello all, I'm having a strange issue with my 2002 qx4. Suddenly one day my remote locks wouldnt work. I then noticed that the power locks, headlights, power seats, ect. wouldnt work unless the key was in the "on" position. the map and dome lights stopped working all together. Seeing as none of this prevents my from driving my car, its not really a pressing issue, however it is an inconvenience and I would like to get whatever's gone wrong, fixed. So basically nothing electric in the car (except the radio) will work unless its 'on' and the map & dome lights wont work at all.

I doubt this is related, but it first happened when i removed my brake calipers for servicing.

May be related to the Alarm System and entry. Sounds like interlock gremlins. The alarm system is interlocked in many many ways with fuel, lights, doors, starter.

Start with a manual, read the overview of the alarm, door entry, then with paper and pencil and eraser:
Start a yes----no scenario, with a single item, check that item out, then another and you will come to a common point. That common point will lead you forward to finding the relay, or switch fault.

This troubleshooting is a must, otherwise it will cost you time for a whole other person to do it or play swap items to find the problem...and you will have to pay for the items.

The read outs are in the book to your vehicle and it will take patience. At the beginning of the electrical chapter there is a topic on how to read the schematics. If you are use to N.O. or N.C. ( normally open or normally closed) it may help but if you understand examine if on or examine if off, then that will help. Also understand the thick lines vs. the thin lines.

Read the diagrams until you understand the reasoning in the diagram, then look for the items in the diagram and understand what each is. When you have an idea of what your doing, know the different relays and where they are used. Then start looking at the vehicle, with time spent reading the sketches, your time will be paid off during your search.

Take your time, be certain, no guess work. If you are doubtful stop and re-read. Go into this with full knowledge and understanding and the reason for it. Believe me this info pays off. Good luck!

Thanks for that great reply ark, but it turned out to be much simpler. It was the "Elec B" interior fuse. It didnt look blown at all, but I decided to replace it just to see if it worked and voila!
