Pardon me. I posted a message before reading what I should have posted and I apologize. I have a 1990 Nissan 240 SX with a SOHC with 5 speed manual transmission. It was very late for me when I posted and I should have read the guidelines first. I read and post technical troubleshooting posts for a living and should have known better.Again, I apologize.

What would loosen or move that would cause 5th gear and reverse disappear? When I move the shifter to the right and forward or to the right and back, it's like there is nothing there to engage these two gears. No unnecessary pressure or anything I know of was put on the shifter. I just took off and when I shifted to 5th...there is nothing there ????Or if I stop and pull it back for reverse, the stick is just loose where the reverse position would be. All other gears are just fine. Smooth as silk. Please help...Could something in that position have slipped loose? Thanks

So you're saying it goes into where 5th and reverse normally would be... but when you let the clutch out... nothing happens?

Never heard of that before...

A better description would be , it's as if it's still in neutral. I guess it is still in neutral. After looking at the FSM, It's as if the shifter is no properly aligned or engaging the Overdrive and reverse fork . Are the shifters removeable? If so . Maybe if I can remove it and replace it. I need to replace the gear oil in the transmission and from what I read, the shifter needs to be removed to pour the oil in. Other information is that there are no unusual noises, vibrations or anything else unusual coming from the transmission. Very strange. If anyone has any ideas, Any information would bw hel pful
