I was told that if you recir. your bov that you would lose hp. Is this true and if so how much could you expect to lose. The reason I am asking is that I read thread about decreasing backfiring and this was the way to do this.

I think you were lied to.

I have heard things like a recirculating BOV reduces backfiring and keeps you from going through spark plugs as frequently.

Recirculating does blow hot air back in with the cold air, but I don't think that causes you to lose any power. I thought recirculating helps you though, I heard that it keeps the car from bogging as much after shifting.

Many web sites that sell BOV have good explanation of just how it works.

BOV recirculated actually keeps turbo spinning allowing for quicker power delivery immediately after shifts.

BOV recirculated means all the air that is metered(by your MAFS) is actually entering the combustion cycle, and therefore the correct A/F mixture is maintained and your car doesn't blow flames or backfire.

^^simplifiedDo it right the first time and recirculate.

It is also supposed to keep a pressure surge from pressing against the turbine slowing it down. This ties directly into why it helps keep the turbine spinning, but it also reduces wear and tear on the bearings.

When you see cars with really LOUD BOVs, it means they are not recirculated I guess?I heard a lot of sr20 cars with a real loud pshhht... any reason to blow into the atmosphere other than the noise?
