I have a 91 240sx with an s13 front end with a bomex body and I was about to bring it to the shop today to get painted today when my friend told me if I was gonna lose the stock spoiler. I was gonna paint my car with the spoiler on it but now i dont know. I've been looking through a series of S13 pics without spoilers and they look pretty sweet. And now i'm confused.

So should i lose the spoiler or use it?

Lose it. It only causes rust.

plus it's really heavy. The supports for my hatch are kinda worn and wouldn't lift the hatch with the spoiler on, but now that the spoiler has been removed it works like new.

first of all i dunno if u hav a hatch or not but i thought to get rid of the wing on a hatch you hav to replace the hatch cuz there will be so much rust. if u can just paint over the rust wen u paint the car like i thought u would be able to then ill be doin this a lot sooner than i thought

When I removed the spoiler, I expected the hatch to be really rusty because there were rust stains all around the edge of the spoiler. But when I took it off, it was just the metal brackets on the spoiler itself. They were entirely rusted. I was able to scrub off the rust stains on the hatch and it was very clean underneath. I used bondo/wire mesh to seal the holes then primed and painted it. Ideally you'd weld the holes but I just wanted a temporary fix until I can get my car repainted professionally.

If it's a coupe, my recommendation would be to DEFINITELY KEEP IT. I have a '92 240SX Coupe (original owner). I have had no rust (which I think is an issue for hatchbacks). A few months ago, I had removed the spoiler to get it painted. It was off of my car for nearly three weeks. Almost immediately I noticed that the rear of car became slightly less firm and planted than before I had removed it. It was especially noticeable driving above 50 mph on curvy roads, which I drive a lot. After it was put back on, the car returned to it's normal, stable behavior.

If I were you, I would keep it on. It definitely has a purpose and works.
