First let me say, I do not want information on illegal drifting spots, but in order to practice I seek guidance in the right type of area, some mentioned abandoned parking lots, some mentioned canyons are bad, streets are big no no's, so I would like to be further educated on this subject, but with more details as in places that there are no people or cars don't drive by, or places one can enter then close a fence, on abandoned private parking lots.

I have been caught street racing 1 time and drifting another time, 1 more pullover and I get my license revoked for good. I have chose to stick to the tracks, but damn, they are expensive, also I have to work every weekend in order to even be able to maintain my soon to be drift machine. I have a true love for this sport, meaning I really want to play it safe, but simply do not want to stick to the track because I would like to drift at least 1x per week, perhaps on my way home from work, etc.

I want to practice figure 8's, and ebrake techniques, all under 45mph, to get better, while having fun in a safe, closed off place here in Los Angeles somewhere, from Long Beach to the San Fernando Valley.

I do not wan't to get caught, and wish to practice on abandoned private property.

Can someone please advice, within Los Angeles, where I might find a good spot. I know asking for a specific spots is not the right thing to do on this forum, thats why I am not asking for illegal drifting spots at all.

Do I need to join a drifting crew in order to gain knowlege of where to go? I could drive around and look, which I have been doing but still nothing that is closed off with perhaps a fence I could lock myself in to.

I want to know where I might look for spots on my own, such as abandoned parking lots, San Pedro docks, Long Beach abandoned industrial alleys, Costco type big parking lots at night, or ask ownere of huge lots for me to borrow it at night for a small fee or something?

Okay, I would also like to know the law in this aspect, Could I legally do donuts, practice e-brake techniques on private property? Parking lots, and not get in trouble by police unless the owner calls the cops on me? Best buy closes at 10pm, can I do it there with cops on the street watching?

Drifting anywhere else besides events is all illegal. Unless you find a property owner that will let you use his or her lot.

Make an add like this or something in your local news paper....

"Attention land and or paved lot owners. Im am looking for a place to practice a driving technique known as drifting on your property with your full permission. I will sign any legal document stating that you are not responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur on your property , and that i can not in anyway sue. I will also sign any legal document stating that i am responsible for any damage to your property. I almost can guarantee that no injuries or property damage will even take place. If anyone is interested in letting me do this on his or her property , i would be willing to pay cash money. Please call xxx-xxx-xxxx if interested."

Hey man, slappy that isn't that bad of an idea. Wether you were being sarcastic or not, still worth a try right???

Oh and to the OP, where do you live in LA??? I'd ne down to throw some cash, so we can practice legally on a lot. I'm sure itd be less than trying to go to the track. I'm in the same pedicament you're in. Track days are tooo much money....but I also support only practicing legally....not worth it to try it in the streets....for pedestrians sake, and your car, and your freedoms sake.

First of all can I say Slappy you are the one who really inspired me to go out and drift now and forget about buying the best of everything, and to concentrate on my skill just as much as the tuning aspect. Well I have drifted since my car was stock, but now I wish to take it to a serious level and well your post was just one of the best I have read and bookmarked it.

For anyone who has not read it, it is a must read for beginners. zer...age=1

2nd, wow what another great idea, this is what I am talking about. Drifting legally, though not at the expensive tracks. Doing so on private property is great, having the owner and drivers sign something is wonderful.

But here is the big question, if this private property, is say next to a busy street with a good heavy fence blocking it, and a cop drives by and says hey what is this kid doing in there would he come and stop me, can he legally ticket me if I have that form by the owner on me? That is the big question.

Oh yeah and I am in the south bay, near LAX to the dude that asked. If I find something Ill let you know, we should definitely start looking around post an ad somewhere and do it huh, hey we could even host our own local drift events if the owner is cool. Ha jk. But yeah for maybe a few guys to practice, Im sure the owner would be very happy earning what, maybe $20 a person per day, if he or she does not mind all the tire marks we will be leaving.

But yes, I will not be drifting anywhere on the streets, or also doubtfully at any tracks due to the price, Im going to inquire on a private property that I know of. Ill let you guys know via email.

Thats the thing , finding someone who will let you "drive recklessly" on his or her property. Im pretty sure if you find an owner that will give you a document with written permission to keep with you to show the police that will show up , that you have the owners consent to be there , that they couldnt do anything since its private property. But , i could be 100% wrong , because police are the police and they can do what ever they like.

It sucks you guys dont have $40 practice days like we do here(ClubLoose). But then again , its only on a big empty lot and not a proper race track , wich goes for $170.

The thing is , i wouldnt want to be the one to "take one for the team" and find out. Its all about safety and the law , and thats hard to beat.

Im waiting for Kamin to chime in and say "Slappy , i cant believe you even suggested such i thing."

Yeah no problem dude. I've seen a lot of threads where people can dish it but can handle it....or where they've asked opinions, you give it and then ***** at the comments they didn't like. Hahaha. I sit there and laugh man. Its funny.

Yeah and bout your thread. Yeah I saw drifitng in tokyo drift, and other mags and stuff. And I was like hmm maybe ill try. I've been wanting to get a good car to fix up anyways, might as well get a s-chassis. And I'm not one to follow a trend. Never have and never will. If the stupidest thing is to drfit or grip with a beautiful piggy hatch dropped on megan coils, then call me stupid! So anyways I researched your thread in the very beginning wich actually got me to join nico, and was like man sounds like fun, and finally a guy that's cool. That's when I emailed you and we got to talkin and I pretty much stumbled on drifting like you. except my bro brought tokyo drift(and I've never really been into the f &f series, but I was lookin at what the car was doin, and you helped me with starting my build. So not on your jock or anything, but massive thanx and respect again....you were the one who first got me into buidling the piggy. Ill have pics up soon!!!
