That's a fantastic violation of the Geneva Conventions. Necessity and Proportionality - I don't see either.

That is just wrong, the fact that our troops seemed to be enjoying this "police" action a little too much, (laughing and hootin..ect) it's no wonder the locals have the views they have of our government, we seriously need to train some of our guys in local diplomacy. Repeated encounters like that will do little to win the hearts and minds of the locals. All I can see are potential combatants for our troops being created by our own troops lack of thought in handling the locals.

Because you'd most likely get capped first...and if it was your car, you shouldn't have been looting after being told explicitly not to, under penalty of car-crushedness...

Not saying that what they did was somehwta twisted, but we barely got any of the story so it's hard to judge...

That was totally unnecessary. Did you see cops with tanks in L.A. during the riots running over everyone's cars? Total disrespect. No wonder the rest of the world thinks we're a bunch of meatheads. We're sending "our finest" morons over there to represent us.:rolleyes

Oh, please.

What a bunch of anti-US propaganda that is.

If that had been actual US troops, and not staged, that would have made the news.

Funny concept, though. :)

After seeing what happened to the 4 American civilians today, I say the *uckers should have been in the car.

its a war. people are getting shot. soldiers are just dudes like you and me that wanted to make their parents proud and earn some extra money. They are stuck in Iraq and they are normal dudes under stress.

It sucks.

I'm not saying its ok, I think they shouldn't be there in the first place.

OK, I think you all missed that video. AZ is totally right. That crap was staged. And regardless of it being staged, I've got one of my very best friends over there right now. He's litterally like my brother. I talked to him for half an hour the other day about what it's like being shot at all the time and not getting any respect from the people he's trying to help and having them be nice to his face and then try to hurt him when he turns his back. It's a bunch of bull**** and although when I look at it right now I don't agree with it, I can't and WON'T say that if I was in the same position that those guys are in right now, I wouldn't do the same thing. I seriously doubt that any of us know what those guys are going through FOR US right now. People are over there dying so that we have the freedom to sit here an tell them that what they are doing is wrong. Grrr......

Funny in what sense? Come on Greg. Do you really beleive what you just wrote? This is some conspiracy theory? US troops wouldn't do that? That is real footage, of real US troops. And it did make the news: PBS's Frontline.

The looters should consider themselves lucky that they let them get out of the car first.

I spent 7 months in Iraq, and "no looting" means "no friggin' looting"

I do agree that taping it and laughing about it are rather unproffesional.

So, what you're saying that violations of Int'l conventions and liberties with police powers are okay so long as the soldiers do it "professionally" - meaning that they aren't caught on tape laughing about it?

Look, I respect immensely that you were on the ground abroad in abysmal and unsafe conditions in defense of our country, but in that capacity, the soldiers are no different from municipal peace officers and we certainly would not let the LAPD crush the cars of looters, much less those in them, in riots here. The bottom line is that what was done was wrong in the context of police power. We are an occupying power, we have to set standards, not expamples, or we run the risk of futher alienating the populace and seeing more incidents of resistance than we already do.

After seeing the events of this past week, i don't give a DAMN about the "populace".

As far as I'm concerned, it's time to draw a line down the center of that craphole. All those for us (democracy, law and order) on one side, all those who oppose us on the other.

Scorched-earth policy to the one side, food, education and medicine for the other.

BTW, no offense NY, but Frontline is about as far from "journalism" as the Enquirer. Ever wonder why that vid didn't make the 6 pm network news? Or CNN? Or World News Tonight?

Likewise...

Perhaps we could agree that if the car in the video was a V6 Mustang with GT-R logos that belonged to a Mets fan, things would be different?

:D

Speaking of a V6 mustang w/GTR logos' there is on one campus. It drives me up the wall everytime I see it. It' a read convertable, V6, GTR logo's on the sides, seems to be otherwise stock. I can't wait till I get my car back. I'd like to line up to that smartarse just one time....

*puts flaming suit on*

Even tho I can't see the vid, I don't see much wrong with what was in it. The only thing the people in the middle east respect is strength. We can't be pu$$ies over there if we're going to bring democracy to that hell-hole.

be anti-war or anti-american all you want. It's not going to change the fact that somebody has to stand up for the sake of world safety, no matter how messy it gets, and get the job done. And right now, the U.S. and it's coalition are the only ones willing to do that...

(now if only we could kick the U.N. out of New York we'd be doing good...)
