loose withdrawal lever

I had my clutch replaced a little less than a year ago. About 3 or 4 months ago I started hearing a squeak coming somewhere from the car. Finally I traced it to the withdrawal lever coming out the side of the transmission (it's a manual) that connects to the Operating Cylinder (is this the same as the slave cylinder?). At any rate, it is loose, and I can move it around freely.

So far I haven't noticed any real problems as far as performance is concerned. The only things are that it's an annoying sound. And two, whenever the clutch is engaged and the engine is running at about 3,000 RPM or more, the spring on the clutch pedal is non-existent. The pedal sinks down and rides at the point of disengagement.

Is it possible the mechanic who replaced the clutch left something loose? Is there a possibility that I'm going to be driving down the road one day and hear a loud noise to the tune of my transmission eating itself? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

for the squeak.. the TO bearing fork just rides on top of a ball mount, and its suggested to put some lithium grease in there to keep it slippy, so you can try to spray a little of lithium grease behind the fork and see how that works out

for the pedal being sloppy.. it could be just air in the lines, you should try to re-bleed the hydraulics
