loose steering wheel... car pulling???

Ok Im having a lot of problems with this car. this weeks problem is the my steering wheel feels really loose while I'm driving and it some times pulls suddenly to the side but the car is still going straight?? if u can under stand that.. the steering wheel will make a 1/4 turn but the car stays straight.. i just got an alignment done on the car to see if that fixes it but it didn't.. i was thinking maybe the gear box or rack and pinion?? can anyone help?? its actually kindof frightening while I'm driving. some times it pulls the whole car and will shoot me over 2 lanes... can any help...????

2 lanes! wtf, get this to a shop, tow if possible. this doesnt sound very safe and i wouldnt be seeking answers on a public forum, get a trustworthy mechanic to check everything that you asked for. stay safe.

yea im actually taking it tomrrow morning to a shop. yea man its bad it doesnt happen all the time just out of the blue its like ...hmmmmm driving driving driving woops two lanes over ohh look a guard rail... ahahah but thanks tho dude.

sounds like the rack bushings are gone or almost gone

can i replace those or replace the whole rack?

you can replace it all if needed, thats why you need it up on a lift to be checked out, pretty damn dangerous.

Steering rack bushings are separate from the steering rack.

The bushings are pretty cheap from SPLparts.com, and is an easy install you can do at home.

you can replace the rack bushings (2) by itself, if thats the problem.. $14

be safe and check your outer tie rods, you never know.

thanks guys i have a parts car thats in great shape so ill just rip what i need off of that. keep posting if u have any other ideas
