I was driving the 240 in a parking lot when all of a sudden, boom! with loud pops going off after... I immediately shut the engine and roll the car to a stall.
The spark plug had gotten loose and the combustion in the cylinder had made the spark plug shoot like a bullet projectile, denting a point, like the tip of a pen, on the hoods surface.
I initially put a funneled adapter (an emptied pen) to my hand vacuum with napkins in-between the contraption to catch any metal bits down where the spark plug screws in. Being careful not to insert the tub too far into the hole and slurp up gas to ignite myself, or electrocute, I pulsed the vacuum around the threading and it had only sucked up grease.
The next day I took a damp sock and put my wrench extension inside it to rub around the hole and see If I find damaged screw thread bits hanging around... but it was just greasy.
If there are metal bits that broke off into the cylinder, its better to tow the car to a mechanic to clean it out rather then for it to possibly cause major engine failure.
Lastly I bought 2 spark plugs for $10 (NGK platinums), and also picked up a regular 5/8" deep socket to screw the new spark plug in.
I lined up the spark plug into the hole and only using the extension, I first screwed counter clock wise then while trying to keep everything in the middle, I screwed it in clockwise for a bit. Not having the proper wrench to tell me when 14 pounds of end pressure is enough, I just kept to a light pressure and used the coil plugs as a reference.
I played it safe so that the finishing top cap is only slightly higher then the rest.
Im thinking of having a mechanic replace the cars sparks plugs and recheck the new one I installed.
