has anyone tried to fix a drivers side seat belt that has too much slack.

im wondering how easy it is to tighten up the retractors. do I have to worry about messing up any air bag related items?

There's actually a technical service bulletin to fix this. You basically place some Teflon tape over the plastic loop the the seat belt goes through. This is supposed to prevent it from getting stuck thus preventing it from retracting completely.

hmm I'll take a look for that service bulliten. its hard to believe that a little teflon tape is going to be enough to wind up that belt

I don't know where to get teflon tape. I did use q-tips and alcohol to clean all of the crap out of the upper retractor loop and it worked a littler better for about a year.

Mine got the same problem. When I leave the driver seat, I need to "send" the belt back into the retractor. Compared to passenger side, I believe it's not the cause of retracting force but the dirty belt itself.

I soaked the belt in a bucket of water with a few drops of laundry detergent, washed it with sponge. Let it dry for an hour or so. It retracts much better, especially for the first half way when I release the belt. I can feel the belt is much more flexible, and soft to the touch.

I will clean the plastic loop where the belt rides on.

I have that same TSB. Has anyone actually done this and had it work? I have no idea where one would acquire Flourine residue tape. Could I just smear toothpaste on it? Oh wait, that's FourIDE .
