I’m not that advanced so I decided to post this in here so you guys could give me your expertise in this matter. Here goes:

I just recently picked up my SR (s14 blacktop) to do my swap. Asides from the typical stress everything went fairly well so far; wiring, picking up the motor etc. Before doing the install I wanted to change the valve cover, turbo, Downpipe gasket so not to be burned by trying to do so with the motor mounted. When I took the valve cover off I noticed that (2) of the rocker arms and shims were loose. I didn’t notice any obvious damage besides the chipped edges on the cam, but my gut wants me to make sure.

The guy I got the motor from, who is reputable, said the compression test passed with “flying colors.” I doubt that anything I did could have dislodged those arms. Something must have made those arms and shims to become loose?

Should I reinstall the arms and shims? Install the motor, hope for the best and expect the worse? Or should I take the motor back?

Thanks,

you obviously need to talk to him. If there is a warranty then maybe he will take care of you in good faith, but you have to know what terms you bought the motor under, and also who's to say this motor didn't run fine? Either way I would not risk having a motor crap out on me for a few hundred bucks worth of fixes.

Thanks man. I'm already making plans to make the exchange Saturday. Driving up there will be a pain but if it will get me a good motor and no problems; i'll do it.

Thanks for looking out on those Sidekirts also. I ALMOST got 'em from you. Still have that mounting hardware?

sorry man,I don't have any of it.

Besides its only gonna cost a few bucks to get the new stuff from an Autozone or Advanced Auto. They are pretty standard connectors.

Good luck on the exchange. And Kudos to the guy who got you that motor for not being a jerk about it and getting you a different one. Keep us updated.
