I have a 2001 QX4 with loose front axle bearings. After looking at the service manual it looks pretty straight forward to correct this except one thing, I don't have the tool/adapter to torque the lock nut. I'm pretty talented at getting around things like this without damaging anything, but wanted to know if someone out there done this and am I walking into any land mines? Thanks.

This tool is a unicorn. I couldn't find one locally either, and the dealer doesn't lend tools obviously. See if any of your local auto parts stores carry this tool: http://www.autopart.com/TOOLS/TOOLSMAIN/tool/T_4170.htm

You know, I made something just like that out of an old worn-out socket a while back. Probably not the right size, but the right idea. Thanks for your help! :mike

If you guys are talking about the aluminum ring that screws onto the cv, i use a pair of long needle nose, works great on all the cars ive used it on.

Edit: Heres a pic of the exact ones i use, my handles are orange though.

The ones on the right are the ones i use, the ones on the left i have also and i dont see any reason why they wouldnt work.
