Well it started as clattering when started. Had it towed to the dealership, they called today to say they managed to get it to quieten down and therefore wanted to do a consumption test. So no new engine unless it shows to be using oil.

I thought the 05-06 Q45's had all of the issues complete and these were non issue models??? I thought that maybe I would be able to purchase a 06 after my Y33...but I see that I will definitely leave the Infiniti family and get me the GS 350

Are you kidding???? Spend 10 minutes over on the M forums, and you will see LOTS of talk about excessive oil consumption on 06 and newer M45{same engine as used in 02-06Q} they are big into adding "catch cans" thinking that will cure the oil burning issues!!!

Yeah...you and I were thrown off that thread! I didn't know that the 02-06 Q used the SAME engine as those M's... F that!! Horrible especially with those M owners thinking that it's ok for your car to burn 1qt of oil every 1.5k!! GS 350, here I come!

Yeah, the junior tech professionals get intimidated when a layman disagrees with their theory regarding source of excessive oil consumption{they REFUSE to believe the rings are the major issue}

Well since our car is not leaving oil stains where ever it is parked... I would say it is burning it... however the compresson test showed no bad rings... so maybe valve guides?
