well i got my car fixed. it was nice. Well i just happened to pass by a BMW dealership. cars are VERy expensive. My bro had a BMW Z3 Roadster, white, back when it 1st came out, when it got famous bc of the James Bond movie. it was nice when he had it bc everywhere we went we were pointed at and recognized. At age 25 he had to get rid of it fast bc it cost too much $$. Well 7 yrs later i come across the BMW lot. and i see this z3. 1998 Z3 Roadster , white with 50k miles. im like wtf?! everything looked exactly the same as my bros car. same model, engine, interior everythign was identical. Well it was set at $15000. My dad was with me, he said he wouldnt mind if that was my graduation present, if on the condition that i sold the 240sx. i was thinking long and hard till the salesperson came by. he asked me if i wanted to road test it. i did, it was a nice ride. Man a 98 Z3 roadster convertible w/ leather interior 5 speed from a BMW dealership that has 50k for $15000 looks like a rare deal. Ill prob be riding in a bmer by this time tommorow :/

please dont hate me ;)

I'd go for it. If its free to you, yipeee!! either way it'll be faster than your 240 and handle just as good. Go for it, it'll be a butt load of fun. Women dig beemers baby!

Congrats. Just because it's a BMW doesn't mean we will be bashing you or it. We may have a little fun at your expense, but just know that it's all in jest and friendship. We are car enthusiasts, it doesn't really matter what car it is, we can appreciate them all for what they are. Granted a Nissan or Infiniti would be better, a Z3 is still a great car and something that I don't think you can pass up. You can always add an S13 to the garage in a few years.

I know very little about Z3's but if it's the base engine, it may leave you wanting a bit more performance, despite the possible 'tang-attracting qualities... :( $15,000 can go pretty far in the used car market, maybe just look around a bit more?Either way, good luck. :)

Perhaps keep the 240, and use the money for upgrades. Bet you can make quite a 240 with that kind of budget.

He already has a redtop but I think it's giving him problems with reliability or something. :( Ahh, the joys of swapping engines...

I've been looking at BMW's for my next ride.....Maybe an E36 M3 or a Z3.....Depends on where I am financially when the 204k mile fiero starts giving me trouble.

I'd love to swap a Northstar in it, but don't want to pull out a decent running engine that's cost me nothing but pocket lint to keep running perfectly for over 6 months.

Haha, the condition is to sell the 240? My father keeps practically begging me to sell the 240 and let him buy me a good running used car. The 240 doesn't even run yet and he's scared of me+it :( Good luck with the Z3!

my friend has an e36 its pretty nice until we were looking under the hood and asked him where the battery was. he said in the trunk. even though theres this big *** spot where the battery SHOULD go. since then we've been saying, damn germans and their crazy battery in the trunk...

and if i were you, id find out if that z3 was your bro's. it would kill me to know that he sold it, and now im buying it back. that would totally suck imo

Indeed, I would take a first gen m3 over the z3. If you like it though more power to you.

I say the Z3 is a wonderful gift if your folks end up getting it for you, but your "bro's" experience with the higher cost of keeping a Bimmer ought to ring some bigger alarm bells in your head. His experience is not unique. I know many BMW owners. Bimmers are going to cost a lot more to keep than a 240sx. If you have fairly deep pockets to maintain it right, then it can be a rewarding car to own. Not particularly fast, roomy, or practical, but certainly a fun car.

I am not a real big z3 fan.The z4's and z8's are a bit more on the pimp side.Course I don't like drop tops much.Too much bad weather where I live and I can't stand road noise.

For a free car though it is a great one! Good Luck with the beeemeeer man. ;)

Z3s are great little cars. However, any BMW is gonna cost major $ to fix/maintain/insure. I believe it's a 1.9litre, by the way, or that may have been the year they started offering the 2.0, oh well, you'd probably know better than I.

There is a company here in Atlanta that offers an Eaton supercharger for the 4cyls. It's clutch driven, so it shuts off when you don't need it and stuff. It's a great, reliable system and should put you pretty decently over 200hp. In a car that small with good weight distribution, you'll be set =D!
