The rear shocks are completely gone... I can feel every bump on the road and the fronts are not that good either. Should i just replace the shocks or should i replace shocks and springs. I know the car is getting old but it still can give me another couple of years without major problems. I do not want to go over $400 . Any suggestions?

blue tokico's - less than $300 shipped off ebay. i left stock springs on though, rides stiffer than stock and you'll feel bumps but handles better. if you want a softer ride go with adjustable shocks like tokico illuminas - more expensive but not that much.

I average 300 miles weekly on NYC roads and I am looking to have a much more comfortable ride. Do you suggest to upgrade the springs too? As for suspensions I would like them very soft. I love how my friends e430 rides can't feel if you are driving or flying. Thnx

I replaced the struts - which I understand are the combined spring/shock setup- in my 96 I30 for a very reasonable price at a Speedy muffler shop. Of course 12 year old struts are going to be pretty much shot, so the improvement was significantly noticeable. I wasn't prepared to "spring" for a really hi-end suspension upgrade on a car of this age. After one year I pulled them off and out them in the "new" 06 I30, no more bouncy-bouncy.
