i have a 91 d21 hardbody pickup that is a 2wd automatic transmission ka24 pos. what i want to do is put a sr20det in place of the ka. what are the good places to get a sr, and does the 5speed transmission fit in place of the stock auto? like no cutting and welding to make the trans fit, i mean other than for the shifter to come trough the floor. and does anyone know it the trucks stock drive shaft will fit still and will my rear end hold up to the new found power. pritty much im just trying to get an idea of what i need to do, what i need to get, and how much i need to do it. thanks for anyhelp any one may have

I would say post this in the Xterra/Frontier and Titan forum but I know how long it takes for anyone to post in there. All I know is the SR will fit. You will need a longer shifter (you can forget about fast shifts with a 1' shifter). The driveshaft will most likely need to be changed. You will need to fab some power steering lines to mate with the p.s. pump. Same goes for the a/c. The diff will most likely hold up to the power. I mean, your not installing a 500 hp race engine. Just 200 hp stock. You will need a new tach for the DOHC signal. Motor mounts, radiator, recomended to get electric fans, and a FMIC cause I'm sure the SMIC wont work in a truck.

sr20's had automatic transmissions, but they are rare in japan, you can call up some importers and see if they have one in stock, It is easy enough to convert to a 5 speed. I would call up the guys at heavy throttle. http://www.heavythrottle.com. I'm pretty sure they have done a pickup/SR swap. good luck man.

They have a section on their website that briefly tells how much work is involved in putting the SR20 into different nissan vehicles, including the hardbody trucks. They will have answers for you.

This is a cool swap that is becoming a lot more common these days. I got to see one of these swaps in person about 6-7 years ago and it was nothing short of badarse.

Moving this to the truck forum...

I am in the process of doing a ka24e turbo build up in a 95 hb. As soon as i have some pics to post i will in a new thread. its going to be a long process, but we are going to push a mild 300 hp, and eventually it is giong to be used for drifting. it should be pretty wicked....just takes time and $$. We almost did a sr20 in it, but we had some importing problems with the one we had lined up, and with emissions we thought it would be best to stick with the KA. That and where i live everyone has sr20's....no wicked ka's, so it is time to show them up !

The diff will hold up fine. If you have any doubts, upgrade to a C200 out of a late model 2wd frontier, or even an H233B out of a 4x4. The downside of the H233B is its width though...your tires will stick out past the fenders, which, IMO, looks stupid if it's not on a built 4x4.

Nissan corporate axles have always been overkill for the powerplants they've had, with the exception of the new trucks with the Dana 44 variant.
