hello, currently i own a 2004 mazda 3. I am looking to get a project car. I am looking into the nissan 240sx. I am wondering what year 240sx is a good year. I plan on spending about $1-2,000. Any suggestions would be great. thanks

For $1-2K you will only be able to get into an older 89-93 240SX, and a beater at that. I would be very wary of anything newer than that that has been thrashed badly enough to only be worth 2K.

welcome to nico!for $1000-$2000 you should be able to get yourself a fairly nice 89-94 240sx. word of the wise make sure its a 5-speed(wish i would have , auto is not the way 2 go when buying a 240. 92s have the best cams in them so that is what i would recamend. I have a 90, only paid $500 for it though! anyhow thats my word of advice.eds13

Alright, if you want a big project car i suggest 1G DSM! Lol they are really fun to work with and quite easy to work with, they arent the most reliable but hey i have fun with them, there is one sitting in my driveway that almost runs 12's and its not extremely modded. I however would chose a 240, for that kinda money though you arent going to get a great one. So i say just shop around and sooner or later you will find a deal. Good luck, and have fun!

Yeah, I have to agree that $1000-2000K is going to be rough. I suppose it depends on how much work you can do yourself. You can probably pick up a fairly decent rolling chassis for cheap and then a KA24DE engine for $500-600 in good condition at the local junkyard.

I guess it depends on how much of a project you want. I paid $3K a few years ago for a '93 fastback with about 95K on the odometer, clean interior and decent paint. It was in good condition for a nearly 10 year old car at the time, but it still needed a lot of work.

Edit: How do you like your Mazda 3, BTW? Do you have a 3 or 5 door? I've been seriously considering getting a Mazda 3 5 door as my daily driver this coming fall.

not really 1-2k is pretty good if u look around but in california here some people want 4k+ for their 89s

get one for like 500 since u want a project car sometimes the owner just wants to get rid of it because the motor is ... but u could fix it. all years of the 240 are pretty good

89-90 = sohc motor91-93 = dohc motor

94= convertible95-96 = camry headlights97-98 = shark headlights

if u put a body kit on though my advice would be ... stick to jdm =) the stuff they make over here looks fugly and tend to be cheap quality
