I have been looking into buying an 03 G35 sedan (30k miles) and have a deal in place. I am a little leary about buying it because I have seen alot of post about the engine burning oil and sometimes causing the engine to seize. Is this something that is common among these cars and is it a big enough deal for me not to buy it? I would be getting an extended warranty on it but don't want to deal with filling the oil all the time and the possibility of the engine ****ting the bed. Please give me your thoughts.

The oil consumption in VQ motors is a relativly rare occurrence. The engine has been on the top-10 best engine list for years now. I would not let a few isolated instances of burning oil hold you back from getting a G35.

However, as with any used vehicle, I do recommend you buy as new as you can afford. 03-04's do have more problems than 05+ in both sedan and coupe versions.

I appreciate the advice. I would be getting a great deal on the 03 and with only 30k for mileage I was hoping the bugs would have been worked out already and dealt with. I just wasn't sure how widespread the problem was.

The car is priced at $17,990 and they are being really agressive on my trade. It is an automatic loaded with the premium package, winter package and wood trim package. It is RWD and has a one owner CARFAX.

In my opinion everyone who drives a car should check oil & all fluids weekly including tire pressure.

what would the cause of the burning oil be? could it be improper break-in? or just being ragged out all the time? or just natural?

It is possible that the engine was not properly built, and therefore shows premature wear and burns oil. This problem is not that common and even if you do get one, make sure it's under warranty in which case infinity woudl replace it for free.
