Been very interested in, possibly, buying an SL. All of the comments are glowing. Any reason I should NOT buy a Versa? Appreciate any help.

Welcome to the Nico community. As for any reasons not to buy a Versa i really dont have any, I mean sure since it was the first year the car was released there was a few kinks to be worked out. But at the time you would be buying one there shouldn't be any problems, other then the occasional minor problems that plague every car on the market. But you wont have to worry because you have a warranty, please enjoy your stay at Nico Club.

Some folks have reported gas mileage in the low 20's. That hasn't been my experience so I can't comment on why the disparity. If gas mileage is your main criteria, the Versa isn't king of the hill. I've done as low as 27 with mostly city driving and 34 with mostly highway. In most other regards, the Versa kicks butt. Love my SL.

The best thing I can say is spend the extra up front and get the SL with all the packages. The sport pkg is the cheapest way to get foglights. The sunroof pkg is great. The audio pkg is wonderful for me because I don't want to make my car look like it's got a lot of aftermarket stuff (ie. break-in target). If you drive somewhat conservatively, you should do well with the gas mileage.

I've had mine for less than a month, and already I can say that this is the best car I've owned.

And if you don't get all the packages, at least get the convenience package. I didn't, because I don't have bluetooth, but now I really wish I had the iKey and steering wheel audio controls. (And I'm averaging 33.8mpg after 28,500 miles, about 75% highway.)

Thanks, Guys. The feed back has been great! Has given me some things to look for and to think about. Drove an S today, but really want to look at the SL, and try out the CVT . Great forum, good friends.

I'd say so. If not converts, then at least someone opening their eyes. And, anyone looking at your car will definitely have their eyes open!

Common complaints have been:- Front seats are too high. They have a height adjustment but the lowest position is higher than most other cars. (issue for me)- CVT doesn't meet EPA highway rating of 36. - CVT isn't as fast as 6 spd man.- Cargo capacity with seats up not as big as desired. - Cargo floor is two levels when seats are down. When carrying larger and heavier items, it can be awkward to try to put item on seats because it doesn't fit in well. - A/C is noticeable when active. - Cargo cover is odd hard and soft dealy. What's up with that?- Aftermarket has been slow to support.

Overall, very minor things.

And anyone expecting either of these cases would have needed a serious readjustment of their automotive knowledge and attitudes.

Now, the CVT SHOULD easily make its *2008* EPA estimates. But it will never be as fast as a 6MT.

Quote »- Cargo capacity with seats up not as big as desired.
...Uh, what?

Let's see here... I packed luggage for 4 adults for 3 days, a small cooler, and a full desktop computer system and monitor in there. I wouldn't exactly call that a shortage of space.

Quote » - A/C is noticeable when active. - Cargo cover is odd hard and soft dealy. What's up with that?- Aftermarket has been slow to support.
A/C is noticeable on most cars. Everything I've ever driven short of a Hemi Charger slowed down pretty noticeably with the A/C on. Again, anyone with an expectation otherwise doesn't understand how cars work.

If I remember, the rear seats have two locked upright positions (essentially, upright and slightly reclined). The "soft dealy" allows the cargo cover to extend to the rear of the seat when it is in both positions.

And if you think the aftermarket is slow on this car, go buy a Kia. Then you'll understand patience.

But yes, very minor issues. All of the actual mechanical issues were sorted out by mid-November '06, so as long as the build date (posted at the bottom of the b-pillar, viewable with the driver's door open) is Nov or after, you won't need to worry about dumb mechanical stuff going wrong.

Sorry, man, I've got to disagree with you and EV, here, although it's really a matter of semantics. You may not be able to accelerate as fast in a CVT as in a 6-speed (although I'm quite happy with my CVT), but with the CVT running 1000 rpm slower than the 6-speed at 70mph, it certainly will run as fast or faster than a 6-speed.
