Hello all,

I've been a long-time lurker on these forums, but this is my first post. I currently DD a Z32 300ZX, but because of gas prices will be looking to buy an S14 to DD. I found a 1997 Kouki shell that a guy is selling and am seriously considering buying it. Here's a link to the craigslist listing:

***1997 240sx s14***

So here's the deal. When he bought it, it had an SR20DET in it, hence the turbo mods... I, however, want a KA24DE that way I don't have to deal with under-the-table smogging or getting my car impounded should a cop ever get nosey. And besides, I'm looking for a clean DD to save gas at this point. Turbos will come later. I'm wondering about a few things:

1. Will the fuel pump (he doesn't know what it is, but after looking at many SR20 swaps is probably upgraded) work with a KA24DE? I just heard from him via text, and he said the fuel lines are still OEM if that helps.

2. How hard will it be to get the swap to pass smog? From what I understand all Kouki's are OBDII so does that mean I have to specifically find an OBDII KA24DE, just an OBDII ECU, or can I just go with OBDI?

3. And finally, do you guys think the car is worth it? He told me he would come down on the price a little bit, and I could sell the SR20DET harness, ECU, and turbo upgrades that come with it to fund my KA24DE swap. The shell just looks really clean (exactly what I'm looking for) so I'd like to take advantage of the opportunity if I could.

Thanks for all your help guys! (Before anyone suggests the search button, I used it ;) and I wasn't sure whether to post here or in the tech section, so I'll re-post there if I need to or a mod can move it :gapteeth: )

yes

Not hard, Yes, a 97+ 240sx is OBD-II, full OBD-II must be kept to pass. PERIOD

3. And finally, do you guys think the car is worth it?

Post a link??, probably not, you can snag a S13 for around 1500, and as long as the EGR works, and the Cat works, you will pass with no problems.

Thanks for the info! Sorry, for some reason the hyperlink didn't transfer. Here's the link:

And I'm looking for a S14 Kouki, so not really interested in a S13. Though they attractive price-wise...

Wow, very clean shell. I would probably price that around 4-5k so his price seems right. Everytime someone says shell I picture a beat up stripped out car with fading/sanded down paint, and suspension. I am interested in know what kind of suspension upgrades it has

^^^Exactly. It's gorgeous. Not sure on the suspension... If it's anything like the rest of the car, it's done right.

So between here and Zilvia, I've found out:

1. I'm OK on the fuel pump/lines.
2. I need to run OBDII.

So are the OBDII and OBDI motors identical, or are they different like the ECU's?

I know the ecu's are different, but I think the motor is the same for the most part. Also, is he including the front bumper? I noticed it was on in the picture. Just curious

OBDII S14's have a few different sensors on the intake manifold than the 95 S14 or S13's. So you'd pretty much have to find a 96-97 motor to make everything as simple as possible. I've never messed with 98's, but I know the timing chain setup is different and can't rule out the possibility of that complicating things.

Question, why does your post count say 1125 if this is your first post?

First post in the S14 threads... I've been here for the Z32 for a while. Anyone else know about motor differences? Or if I just need the newer manifold?

According to this page, third post:

The only difference is in the manifold. Does anyone else know anything about this? Can the manifolds be swapped??

Manifolds are swapped pretty easily. I pulled the 95 KA out of my S14, threw it in the S13 just by bolting the S13 manifold onto it, that and the distributor are the only things that are different. Like I said earlier though I've never actually owned an OBDII S14. My advice to you is since you don't already have a mismatched KA lying around that you want to swap in, when you do get one, make sure its from a 96-97 model year, that way there'll be no complications whatsoever. Except for the fact of course that you have an SR20 ecu and a hacked up harness already in there to deal with

That's good to hear... I have a potential low-miles motor but it's OBDI. And as far as the SR setup goes, I'm going to sell the SR harness and ECU to someone who's performing a swap. Any takers? Lol

Also, any idea where I could pick up a manifold? I mean somewhere that consistently has them, not the NICO marketplace (but hell anywhere is good I guess).
