hi all im new here, not new to forums, been doing a little research and im looking for advice on buying an nissan altima coupe. I currently own an audi a4 quattro v6 and want to get something newer and more gas effiecient, so im looking for a 2008-2010 altima coupe 2.5s manual with less than 75k miles.
1-how reliable are these cars, i keep getting mixed reviews, i also understand maintanence is important.
2-2008, 2009 or 2010, any difference?
3-KBB and NADA values are off by 2500?!? what should i pay for the car im looking for.
4-i tried looking up but didnt find, do the manual transmissions are also CVT, i heard bad things about CVT

Any other advice would be much appreciated, thanks

1. I have an 08 with 35k miles and CVT, runs like an absolute dream. Oil every 3k, 93 octane, tire pressure, fluids, keeping everything clean, ect)
2. Only difference between the 08s-12s are the front end (08 has rounder headlights, 10+ has wierd dome things on them).
3. I paid 17k for the 08 3.5se w/ CVT. I've heard of people paying as low as 12k with a 6 speed in an 08 3.5. Figure out a price range and try and find something in it.
4. My CVT has been fine for 35k miles and I've heard that people have had them last 100k+. It should be under warranty until 120k miles I believe. Downside with a CVT is that you can't turbo it, so if you're interested in that, you'll need the 6 speed.

Good luck and welcome to the forums!

welcome to the nissan import world lol

1. i have a 2.5 CVT with about 45k on it and i love it, bought it with a rear fender bender and rebuilt it for all under 10k, for the 2.5 regular is recommended, and on the freeway sometimes i get as high as of 39mpg average.

2. same as above, just the front end is different, i like the 08 but some others like the 11 look

3. i havent been looking at cost

4. i love my CVT and havent had any problems, its definitely different from a normal auto but if you plan to turbo with a CVT ive only heard negative things
good luck

Thanks a lot guys, i feel more confident getting one already, really want a manual just because i driven manual my whole life. My budget is 11-13K cash, figure i could budge a person or a dealer more with cash in hand. Im actually going to check one out after work, we'll see what happens...

Welcome to the forums.

1. My CVT 3.5 is pushing 60,000 miles with no issues at all. Still pulls hard. You're going to have a kind of hard time finding it in 6MT though. As a couple people have said on these forums, for every 6MT they make, like 100 CVT's are made.

2. Front fascia and head lights.

3. I paid 21,500 for my 3.5CVT, but it was fully loaded. I also bought it used. 2.5 6MT... you might find one in your 11-13K price range. But believe it or not, CVT''s sell for cheaper.

4. If I understand this question correctly, no. The 6MT is a standard manual transmission. It might have VVT (Variable Valve Timing), but i don't remember. The CVT is a different transmission. I love my CVT, but it is a little unnerving when you hit about 6000 RPM and it isn't shifting. Also, like a couple people on here have said, if you plan on going turbo, the 2.5 is not a good choice, nor is the CVT. There are a couple of 3.5 CVT's that are running turbo set ups under 6PSI and are apparently doing okay, but if you want to turbo, hunt yourself down a 6MT.

As a side note, beware of the stealership. If you come in with that much cash in hand, they're going to try their absolute best to upsell you. If possible, do what you've already done and go in with a car already in mind that you found on their website and only discuss that vehicle. If they try to show you a different one, keep looking at the one you're interested in. Be firm and don't get ripped off.

The car itself is great! I bought my 2008 3.5se on July 4th 2007 and havent had any major issues. CVT isn't as good as manual. the 3.5se and 2.5s have different CVT transmissions and the 2.5s CVT isnt as strong as the one in the 3.5se. stick to buying a manual. Its harder to come by but you'll be much happier if you stick to looking for a manual. Don't settle for a CVT like me and so many other members have done.

also, 2008 and 2009 are pretty much the same except for minor things like a different passenger floor mat for 2009. but 2010 has a different front.

CVT is fine, reliability good, cars are decent family coupes, resell value is horrible
