Ive had a few dealers offer me some deals on 2017 CPOs... with the lowest being 18500+TTL+financing for a 2017 Nissan Rogue SV with 17k miles. Is this a fair deal? My target is 17500-18000+TTL+(maybe financing) and I've had dealers try to sell me 2017 CPOs at 24k (it was a rental, had cosmetic issues, was missing a key, had a tire replaced, etc). I called their bluffs several times and have seen the prices drop $5000 in less than 2 weeks. My long game strategy is to get them to continue to do so, because I do not believe the car is worth the $24 they are asking for (better yet the $20k)

Am I being realistic or am I being a hard headed fool that just needs to bite on a good thing?

Please let me know! First car purchase of my life time!

My two cents here: You can get a brand new one for $24k, or even better, $20k, depending on the trim level. For the SV, you can totally get a new one for around $20k, if bargained correctly and properly. The dealer that I go to for servicing, sells the SL trim (fully loaded with all SL packages) for around $21k-$23k w/ dealer accessories installed for roughly $10k below MSRP, and it is brand new. Unless you want to have that additional miles on it , then you can be like Patrick star and fish out that much money for a car with that mileage. And does the dealer has the service history for the vehicle? But again, none of us knows about your financial situation.

the lowest I've gotten a 2017 new SV to is $22698 including TTL...21000 flat before taxes and fees.

I prefer a CPO due to the powertrain and because it will fit into my budget better (18500 before TTL is the most I will do.

there are several 2017 CPOs SVs in my market stuck at $21k/$20k with dealers unwilling to budge. These cars are mostly demos, rentals, fleets, leases, etc.

What can I do to get them to meet me at $18.5k-$17.5k? I don't think thats an unreasonable price for the car, based on true value research.

what tactics could I use in my negotiating?

Ive negotiated prices, trade-ins, financing, etc separately. Ive pitted dealerships against each other and have produced official POs for dealers to prove my offers. I have my own financing. Ive walked away from their "best" offers. Ive asked for money off for cosmetic and aesthetic issues on the vehicle.

What else should or can I do?

Great question and comments. I am in the same situtation- looking at a new 17.5 (over the 17) Rogue S or SV. Best deal so far is a S with a $4000 discount and 0% financing, or SV with $1200 discount and 0%. I need them to give more discount on SV, but I have a few more weeks until my new car from March (defective) is bought back. No trade gives me leverage, plus I am working a second Nissan dealer as well. I will be at the mid cycle for their incentives next month, not as good as right now, but they all have a ton of inventory! Thanks for the info.

I honestly think the S, with its nasty aesthetics (black handles) and the lack of wireless key is not worth the price it they sell it at. You can get a lightly used 2016 SV and maybe 2015 SL for the same price.

i like the new 2017.5 safety features but I feel like time is in our benefit with the 2018s approaching.

Quite frankly, I can't see the value is paying thousands of dollars over true cost for a car that will be naturally losing its value in a few months.

Dealers tell me they all buy the cars for the same price, but i know they all can sell them for different prices depending on their productivity, sales, profits, etc. Ive noticed a lot of CPO 2017 SVs going untouched the market and i wonder if thats the market saying they'll just wait for a 2018.

i was offered a 11k miles 2017 SV CPO Rogue for $23.7k...got it down to $22.9k and I walked away. Two days later its internet price is $21,399. I let the dealer know that i saw a price drop, he tells me to come in.

i come in, th price drops to $20.4k. The car had some noticeable interior aesthestic issues which I noted (and missing a key) yet they wouldn't budge on the price, nor would they offer to fix the interior issues (offered to make me another key though). I showed them a price to beat ($18.945k before TTL)...and they wouldn't do it.

Car is still on the lot as we speak. Im hedging my bets, but I think i may be able to get them to my target since they can't sell the vehicle. It was a demo vehicle too.

10k below msrp? Which state do you live in? I never heard any dealer going 30% lower than msrp in indianapolis. I bought mine in 2014 january and dealer wouldnt even lower $1000 from msrp

Florida. There are like a billion Nissan dealers here, so they are trying to get the customer by going up to $10k off the MSRP. We bought our 2016 Rogue SL in South Florida (Miami area) for $25k on Christmas eve 2015 without the premium package, but found out that the dealer we go to servicing is selling the same exact car for $21k brand new in early-to-mid 2016. S model is being sold for around $15k new in my area and SV for around the same price (varies with packages). I bet the prices are similar to Rougeone's area in Florida.

Nooooooooo. The CVT issues in the Rogue would make me more wary of buying anything that's not brand new, not less wary.

If you buy a new one and get a lemon (which is still very unlikely, although possible), you fight tooth and nail to get a warranty replacement of the CVT at no cost to you, then eat the cost of trading it in immediately after the repair is made. I'd much rather take the risk of having to eat the cost of trading in a 2017 lemon for a brand new 2018 or 2019 vehicle a year from now than the risk of having issues with a vehicle I bought that already had 17,000 miles when I bought it.

If you can wait a couple months, Thanksgiving is early this year. The 30th is the Thursday after Thanksgiving. Go in the following week and get a deal on a 2017 or 2017.5 leftover with less than 30 miles on the odometer. Start on cyber Monday, close the deal and sign the paperwork by Thursday the 30th. There will be deals to be had. The key to negotiating is first to know how to pit multiple dealers against each other, second being willing to walk and always remaining calm and cool, and third to not be too picky about color, trim, or options.

I absolutely would not touch a vehicle with interior damage, missing a key, and had a tire replaced already. One of those things by itself might not necessarily mean anything, but the combination of all three screams that the car has already been through hell.

I'm Looking to buy new 17.5 Rogue SV in upstate NY. Looking for just the standard options in an SV, nothing more. Best price I got was $26,100. Is this a good price? Has anyone done better?
