I am looking at buying a 240sx, i am curious what kind of money you have to put into one to make it where, if you race it occassionally its not going to fall apart in like 6 races. i have not drifted before so i am interested in finding a nice empty parking lot and learning. I just want to be sure i have built it to point where its not going to fall apart from the stress. also, anyone know of any sellers where i can find a cheap 240 for sale in or around missouri?

Best thing to do is search and search locally. When you find one, make sure that there is little to no rust; look underneath, and around the wheel wells. Check the frame rails for any damage. Make sure suspension is not shot.Do you want a 240 ready to go, "i.e", running or already modified. Or do wantto take the time to build an engine from the ground up. Many Niconauts gowith the KA-T, some, like me, SR'd. Pricing varies. An SR can run up to 2,500.I got my mine for 1,650, complete.Check out this link all about the KA-Thttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/99647I've never heard or read about a 240 falling apart due to stress. Invest in some coilovers and name brand suspension parts, a good set of wheels and you'llbe fine. G/L/W/S

As for right now, cheaper is better in price but i dont by any means want it to be a P.O.S. I mean if it has a scratch here and there thats fine and all. I just dont want to pay over $1000 for something and it have a crap transmission and blown engine and a s***ty rotors lol. i want something that will be able to handle what i put it to and take it in stride. i would like a semi-stock 240, so i can build it up and say its mine. But at the same time if it has a few mods done to it already i wont stick my nose up either.

If you're looking to start drifting, I suggest not worrying about whether it's an sr or not.Plain ol' KA will do the trick (Stock engine) untill you get like LOLOMGDRIFT24/7.Then I'd do a good ol swap.

Buy a decent 240. Doesn't have to be awesomesauce, buy one and make it your own.I'd start with Suspension, slap some rims on there, maybe an exhaust. Stocks pretty loud so.. Not sure if you can hear the exhaust over screeching tires though, bought mine with an aftermarket exhaust in it.

To sum it up; get adj coilovers, rims, and a fatty exhaust system. Should be good to last the adventure of "How do I drift"; to ; "LOOK AT ALL THE SMOKELOL"

Buy one, go to some events near your area. Try it out. If you like it with stock suspension, etc. Then follow through.

My 2 cents.

Goodluck with your purchase; if you follow through.

oh, and don't listen to them, when you get your car, you don't need coils, wheels, exhaust, etc. just drive it stock for a while, and then drift it stock for a while.

Driving a car stock for a while is a good rule for any car not just the 240. A friend of mine does that with all his cars, but when he upgrades he does a big upgrade. For example he wanted a new suspension for his FD, but he drove for like a year on stock equipment before deciding on Flex coilovers. Alot of the time owners want lower but comfort or whatever so they make incremental upgrades such as springs with stock shocks. In the long run they have to go in again to replace the shocks or even upgrade again to a different combo or coilovers.

Okay, just to ask one last time, i am looking for a 240, any body style, 2500 or less, preferably with the Coilovers already on it but not required a 24de would be nice for the extra speed, a turbo i know will run me way over 2500 so thats only optional. i checked craigslist and found 1 car for 2.5k and msg'd the owner for pics, other than that i have not found any for under 2.5k that are in decent condition.

dude, you aren't gonna find the car today. Be patient, things take time. Check NICO, craigslist, autotrader, etc. pretty much everyday and after a while, you will see something you like. and like I said, you don't need coils or anything, and there is virtually no difference between the DOHC and SOHC KA, other than that the SOHC is better for turbo. /fact

The availability of 240's or any car, is very dependent on your area. Getting a SOHC car for 2500 or less should be pretty easy. 2500 for an s14 is pushing it unless you knowingly go into one with issues. Being patient is key, having money to pony up for a clean car is the other option.
