Im seventeen, turning 18 this summer and currently saving money to buy a 240sx over the summer. I heard its a great tuner car and fairly cheap to tune. I have a lot of mechanical background and my dad is in the industry for over 20 years now so the tuning would be a do it yourself thing. I want to start on the engine first and would like to know wat would be cheap but also give a descent boost to the car. i was also thinking a ka25de or rb25det engine swap. my price budget is about 4k. What should i do???

Search and figure out what your goals for the car are. Most 240's have severely worn suspension components (s13 chassis) think about that first, then get to the engine upgrade part.

RB25DET would be nice though

If i were you I would keep the KA24DE or KA24E depending on its shape if not get one in better condition and get a t25 turbo, and or supercharge the thing thats what im doing anyway. If you would look into doing a motor swap I would recommend the Rb20det, just because its fairly cheap engine swap and you still get a **** load of power.

But again set aside from the engine swaps, how much power are you looking for? If your looking for a comfortable DD and as well for the track scratch the engine **** and head right for suspension and a 2-way LSD. That's what about 90% of nicoclub population would say, me on the other hand a like working my way on a little of everything, some suspension and engine as well as looks also nothing ricey no bodykits just OEM my preference.....If ya need any help I would be glad to help you on some stuff...but search first then ask questions.

yeah i researched the engines and its just to pricy so im just gonna go suspension first then a short ram or cold air intake, havent decided yet, then put a small turbo, im looking to put out 300 bhp at 7000rpm, im on a small 3-4k budget, so wat could i make out of that much?

I want a ka25de too.. thatd be awesome.

Anyway I would do suspension goodies first, then maybe a header and exhaust, dont waste money on an intake just do a cone filter with stock pipeing. And if your not happy with the power run the universal 50-75 shot off jegs. A ka with a 70 shot would pull on most cars on the street with a good driver.

rb20det sucks! no but really its not worth it. its not much more powerful than a s14/s15 sr20det and its a 6 cylinder!

just do a ka24de-t you can do it relatively cheap with a t25 and an fmu or a rom tune. check out the ka-t forum here or search for more info on fmu setups. it would have you over the 200 whp mark and if you shop right it would be cheap.

rb motors have more torque sr motors are easier to install and more parts so less.

Thank you for correcting me, but you see my point now right? Its still weaker than a 4 cyl sr20
