As a fellow Canadian and a current 1994 J3Ot driver do the following:
(a) get the UVIP package from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. It will give you the history of the vehicle, KM's, owners and will let you know if the vehicle has been salvaged (insurance write off). It will set you back $20 but its worthwhile.
(b) Since your in Ottawa make sure the vehicle isn't from Quebec. Quebec vehicles are known for odometer tampering, stolen vehicles, and being rebuilt from salvage. A quck way to determin if it might be from Quebec is to look for a white auto engraving with VIN number directly on the door windows. I believe in Quebec for most of the cars sold during the 90's this engraving had to be there by law.
(c)Get the VIN number of the vehicle (You will need it for the UVIP), If you call Nissan/Infiniti HQ in Canada they can find out for you which dealership oroginally sold that vehicle. Contact that dealership and get the history. That's what I did years ago when I bought my J30T. I found everyone at Infiniti Canada and the different dealerships very helpful.
(d)Get the vehicle checked out by a mechanic that knows Infinitis. A blinking HICAS light could mean BIG repair bills that could negate what you pay for the vehicle.
